I think I am getting too old to use my phone for a communication channel via the typed word. Thanks for the grammar catch, it was early this morning and I knew something was off but could not put my finger on the problem even after proofing several times in my head.

I thought the days were over with grammar policing.

Stacked the box? No downfield threat? Seems pretty simple.

I welcomed the correction it was nagging at me when I wrote the post and I felt something was wrong it just would not sink in, and I sent it when I got involved with something else, English is a beautiful language and lapses like this should always be brought to one's attention. I read lots of papers in languages other than English for work so sometimes I tend to blend things together which is what I think happened this morning. I took no offense the person was just doing something kind for English so it stays beautiful, articulate, and pristine.

So. Everyone on the oline and TE need to do better.
Witten was horrible on run blocking. There were two plays where just completely whiffed on Vernon Olivier.

I suppose in fairness...it IS vernon olivier. But those missed blocks killed the run play.

What I'm hoping is Dak can manage enough of the offensive ship that we can focus on defense and put the team in the hands of Rod Marinelli, who has proven success as a coordinator. If we start building up a dominant defense, we won't have to put up 30 points a game, and we see how important defense is when Siemian, a 2nd year player, came in and got a victory over the Panthers because he didn't have to play perfect ball and constantly trade scores with the opposing quarterback.
Can you please list Marrinelli's proven success as a dc, when he has absolutely no talent. His reputation as a DC was built when he had stars on the defense. He has players that would be back ups, at best, on an average defense. Marrineli hasn't done a darn thin without defensive star players.

The reason for all those "man boxes" is that the Cowboys invited them there. Go back and look, and just about every play has 2 TEs in tight on running plays. What is the defense to do, sit back in coverage? They would have much more success if the spread them out and run right at them.

Vernon destroyed our offensive line last year as well. He had 1 sack 2 TFL and a 4 hits on the QB vs Miami.

I've read a lot of stuff about Zeke needing to be more patient, watching those clips I don't see how that was going to help him. There was no movement by the offensive line at all. Pretty shocking when you consider it was the first game of the season and Dallas had the ball as much as they did.

In the past, the Cowboys have been better running from 3 wide than from 2 TE or Jumbo (3 TE) sets.

I would prefer to split the Slot WR out as far as possible or motion him out wide and then run from 3 wide. If the defenders are out wide in coverage you don't even have to block them.

The Giants stacked the box and crashed the line with bakers and safeties and dared Garrett to open up the offense.......he blinked

Every team we play is going to use this exact same gameplan until Romo is back.

we will see how many d lines will be able to do that on this oline. there is a reason the giants spent high on defense. but it's a pretty good gameplan for the opponent because the opponent is using cowboys romo-less, vanilla, safe mode against them. untill cowboys successfully counter this its going to happen.

we got pretty far with romo-less, rookie qb, safe mode against a heavy d and SB QB. by one point. might be that DAK mojo that pushed us there. if we had a weeden, or cassel we would have gotten blasted on the scoreboard. caught td passes change this narrative. that close!

IMO we win that game if we played keep away like we did in the first half. The crazy thing is this coaching scheme would of worked if not for some drops and brain locked plays by the WR's. Do I like and think it is fun to watch this scheme hell no but it gives the defense the best chance to be average and rested.

Keep away only works if you actually put the ball in the endzone. If not, you are just shortening the game for your own chances to come back. It's the strategy that failed against the Giants in the playoffs in 2007.

It took us about 30 plays to start the game to net 6pts. The Giants needed about 6 plays to net 7 points. That's pretty demoralizing to the players and fans.

I'm not sure on the Dak/Weeden/Cassel thing. We played a lot of close games last year that came down to the last possession or two even with Weeden and Cassel playing. I think Dak definitely looks better than they did, but they were only part of the problem last year. The biggest issue is less about the QB who is back there and more about the QB that isn't.

This game against the Skins is going to be very telling, they don't have near the D-line that the Giants have so if they shut our running game down, we are in trouble.
