Okay, before everyone gets upset. This is not what I think will happen. This is just a mock that assumes a few things:
  • The Cowboys believe they are close to contending and are a few defensive players away.
  • The team will make the necessary adjustments (exercise Jason WItten's $4 million, restructure players, sign incoming players to extensions lowering their 1st year cap #, etc.)
  • Rumors about teams wanting to trade these veterans are true.
Also, I used CBS Sports rankings for the picks for the Cowboys.

Day One
1(28) Traded to the San Francisco 49ers, who want to jump back into the 1st round to get their QB.
  • Cowboys send the 28th pick to San Francisco for the 34th pick and the 109th pick.
Day Two
2a(34) T.J Watt DE 6-4/252 Wisconsin

2b(60) Traded to the Seattle Seahawks for Pro Bowl cornerback Richard Sherman
  • Cowboys send the 60th pick and a conditional 2018 pick to Seattle for Richard Sherman CB and the 210th pick.

3(92) JuJu Smith-Schuster WR 6-1/215 USC

Day Three

4a(109) Justin Evans S 6-0/199 Texas A&M

4b(133) Traded to the NY Jets for defensive lineman Sheldon Richardson

6a(210) Aaron Jones RB 5-9/208 UTEP

7a(228) Avery Moss DE 6-3/264 Youngstown State

It's nice work, but it's all contingent on Watt being available in a trade down. I don't think he will be and if he was there's at #28, I'm pulling the trigger for myself and not risking it.

So we end up with Watt, Sherman, Richardson, JuJu, Evans, Moss, Jones and Decoud?

Wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. But I have irrational fears of USC skill players sucking in the NFL.

there is a buncha cash tied up in richardson and sherman currently...not sure they could free up enough room by the draft....but, I like the moves, and wouldn't be upset by it at all

I will take it. Good job. Love the Watt pick in the trade down.

Works for me. I'd love if we could come away with JuJu

How is it Madden?

Rumors are out there that Richardson could be had for a 4th round pick. Today, there are articles that the Seahawks have come down some from their trade demands for Sherman.

I would be stoked. Give me Watt, Richardson, and Sherman?? Plus a WR? Are you kidding me? Instant improvement. I also would like to see what Sherman could bring to that side. We need some nasty and Maranelli would love him!

Yeah. And i'm definitely not trading down out of the 1st for an extra 4th. The minimum i'd take is a high 3rd.

Stop at the top. No trade down, not happening unless there is a future #1 attached. Too much value in the 5th year option especially at the end of round one and possibly hitting on a talent like Watt.

We can leverage the 5th year option for all those teams in the top of the 2nd looking to get a QB.

I'd be really tempted if someone like Cleveland offered 33 and 52 for pick 28. Obviously depends on who's still available.

I prefer not taking on vets but keeping the team young with draft picks. Wouldn't mind a trade down for an extra 2nd and third though...
