Look guys, I know this was a beating, but the last Superbowl Dallas had, they got hammered by San Fran, in Dallas, with Elvis Grbac starting in place of an injured Steve Young. The situation was very similar in that there was a big interview with Irvin and Deion right before the game (ala Owens) and everyone was thinking of the Niners as an afterthought. As I'm sure you all remember, the Boys got clobbered in Texas Stadium (making those new Deion Nike commercials they debuted pretty commical to my San Fran buddies who made fun of me all game long).

Point is, that on certain days teams just have a better game plan. Payton knew how to exploit the Dallas Defense by using Ware's overpursuit and Roy's bad coverage against them. He also knew how to game-plan for Romo.

Not saying Dallas will have the Saint's number come playoff time, but they will not fall for the same tricks again on the next go around. Besides, it's better to have the train-wreck now than in January.

By the way, anyone that gets mad at Payton about the onside kick and all that other stuff should remember that the Saints considered this a statement game to the Cowboys and the rest of the league in general. If they wanted to rub it in, they could have scored another touchdown or two. The Dallas "D" could do nothing to stop them.

Hopefully, it will get the Boys steamed and they can take it out on Atlanta next weekend.

I remember that for the Merton Hanks chicken (pidgeon?) dance thing.
I wanted to reach through my screen and make a wish out of him

Yeah I remember that and I think there were similar elements, Dallas started drinking their Kool Aid the media was giving them and went in way overconfident as the Saints played like a team with something to prove.........of course in that last SB run, the Packers beat SF so we didn't have to face SF again in the Championship game.

FYI, Merton Hanks is from Dallas too (Lake Highlands HS) which made me hate his long necked chicken dance even more.

If the Boys don't get steamed after this whoppin', we don't deserve to be in the playoffs.

Only problem is this team isn't as good.

One good thing is neither is the rest of the NFL.

Every NFC has its weakness.

Saints - get up on them early and run the ball.

Bears - get to Rex Grossman.

Giants - pressure Manning, expose their secondary.

Seahawks - stuff the run and rough up their receivers.

This was a good loss because it means we have to devise a way to beat the Saints should we see them again and because we were starting to eat the cheese.

There isn't going to be a cake walk to the Super Bowl. It's going to be a hard, tough road.

Hopefully, this is a learning experience and not a crushing defeat for the Cowboys.

In watching the game, I couldn't help but think of the 1991 team where we made the playoffs, beat the bears and then Erik Kramer of the Lions absolutely carved us up. Our pass rush wasn't good enough and our secondary was just ok. We improved both and the rest as they say is history.

I think our pass rush is just not good enough to beat excellent passing teams. I realize we beat the Colts, but that pass rush did not show up against the Saints. You can't let good quarterbacks stand back there and feel really comfortable. I think we need to get more from Spears and Canty or they need to be replaced and more from our inside guys in the nickle.

Sorry Joe, we WILL FALL for the same tricks the 2nd time around and the 3rd and the 4th, etc. Did anybody get on the FB Karney after his 1st TD? After his 2nd? After his 3rd? This is a bad team w/ bad coaches. People talk about how the Texans feel today. Well feel the same way; we could have kept Payton and Gibbs and dumped BP and MZ.

This is not '95. Romo is not Troy Aikman, TO is not Michael Irvin, Julius Jones AND MBIII don't add up to Emmit.

I'm also waiting for us to get a coach that can make some adjustments when things are not going well, not just stand there w/ a "people are letting me down" pout or telling the sideline reporters they "are in state of shock".

The OSK and the kneel-down at the end were the ultimate INSULTS one coach could lay on another. The statements were being made that "you are completely unprepared" and "everything going on here is being controlled by us". Will BP think twice before humilating assistants on the sideline in front of the fans and team? I doubt it. He hasn't changed his thinking about how to play the game in the last 20 years, why should he show anybody any respect?

BTW, did Romo look any different in last night's post-game PC? He wasn't smiling, but other than that he did not seem upset or purturbed that the offense played so poorly. In fact he said you have to expect this whenh you play the game. Sounds to me like he learned something about losing from Vinny along w/ how to prepare for a game. On the other hand, Peyton Manning was crushed in his post-game comments. Me thinks Cinderella has turned back into a pumpkin, and our season along with it...

What makes you think we wouldn't fall for the same tricks? They kept doing the same thing over & over again, and still we didn't adjust. This was a pitifull outing all the way around. For our coaching staff not to adjust to the same plays they were running with the fullback, and the dumps over Ware's head was pathetic....and for there not to be a player assigned to the RBs coming out of the backfield was nuts. That was the worst defensive effort I've seen from this group-ever! I was sure that our DEs would step up big time after being called out, but instead, the only player to SHOW UP on the D line was the NT.

There are few players who I dislike to the point where I hope bad things happen to them outside their team losing to the Cowboys. Merton Hanks was one of them. I always wanted to see his head snap completely off during that chicken dance.

A few seasons ago, Brad Sham had Hanks as a guest color analyst during a pre-season game (Babe was unavailable for some reason). Hanks was smart, funny, and very likeable. It kind of ruined the whole hatred thing I had going on.

I didn't say we would beat the Saints if we played them again. The team will be better prepared for the things that they run and the game will be closer. Remember the first Eagles game last year? Dallas was one step ahead the whole game and the Eagles could do nothing right. It was much closer the second game around, even without TO playing for the Eagles. They adjusted.

Games like this happen. I've been a Cowboys fan/football fan for thirty-plus years and there are always games like these. Afterwards, there is always a sense of doom from the fans and the media. It is one loss. The Boys can still get their first home playoff game in over a decade and that still makes me pretty happy to be a Boys fan.

Let me clarify my earlier post. I know this year's version is not the 95 team (I'd settle for the 81 team right now), but the same things were said after Dallas got blown out at home by the 49ers that year (team is living on the past, etc.). That team used the loss as a wkae-up call and turned out just fine. My point was, the season is not over just because of one loss. Teams have come back from worse.

Like I said earlier, I don't blame Payton for his onside kick. He knew that the onside kick would effectively take the fight out of the opposing team and he went for it, ala Jimmy Johnson. Strong statement made to the Cowboys and the league.
