I have no reason to believe that McFadden can't play. As anyone watching that dogpile of an OL can attest, he hasn't had a chance to do anything in Oakland recently (or barely ever). So it comes down to whether or not he's lost his physical skills or his mental edge from playing behind such a sad sack bunch for so long. He still looks quick and explosive when he gets a chance, so at least IMO it's about the mental aspect more than anything. Because playing for a such a horrible organization for so long has to weigh on your psyche.

But whether he's shot or not we'll all know soon enough, I'm sure he's going to get plenty of chances in training camp. I'm not sure why some people want to belittle him at this point. He'll either be good or he won't, right now we just don't know because he was playing behind a horrible line. But soon we're going to get a chance to see him for real behind our line, and I for one can't wait. Because either he'll look good and we can move forward with him, or he won't and we can cut him and look for someone else (likely via trade), but either way nobody here really knows what he's going to do when he has a chance with this OL.

Liking this because you did the hard work to answer his question, not that I think his question was relevant to how good a team we might be this year. It wouldn't matter if there were zero examples of the Cowboys using a committee approach successfully, we already know that teams have been able to do it. There's nothing special about our laundry that would make it impossible.

Um, hey Fuzz, I didn't start the Murray vs. DMAC comparison. I just responded to it so I'm not couching the thread in any way.

Hey, I'm still looking for your insight on when we've been successful winning playoff games or a SB with a RBBC.

I know that you weren't the one to come up with it. Recognizing groupthink is the first step I suppose. You are arguing along those lines anyway. It is what it is.

So if i cannot come up with a successful time of the Cowboys rotating RBs then that means what exactly? Reductio ad absurdum, oversimplifying, or whatever you want to call it, I fail to see the significance. I'll play along anyway though.

I know that before Dorsett, Landry rotated Newhouse, Reeves, Thomas, and all manner of backs. More recently Parcells and Phillips rotated the likes of Anderson, Felix, Julius, and Barber. They all had varying levels of success. If you don't try to mindlessly bias it and include the league then you can look to this past year's Pats, several Steelers championship teams, the Saints, Broncos, Panthers, and other recent playoff teams as well.

I don't know, because I didn't watch it, but smaller sample sizes and variations in the mix of downs/rushing situations they got the ball in in specialized packages could easily explain it. For example, Murray did his most effective work late in losses, where he might have been running against a defense setup to defend the pass whereas DMC was getting reps early in games against rushing fronts. Who knows?

There's also the idea that some backs run better through blown blocking others, depending on their body types and rushing style.

I'm not defending McFadden, because I don't think he's anything more than a possible role player who's good on zone stretch plays and in passing situations, but you can't just look at the Raiders APC lines from last season and pretend to know anything about what was really going on over there.
