He's a 35 yr old ol who hasn't played in a yr and half. I'm sure some might think he's better than what have but I wouldn't bet on it.

I'm not real big on it myself. I wish Brandon Moore would reconsider now.

I still can't fathom why anyone in their right mind would be against bringing in a seasoned vet who has played at an elite level. He doesn't have to start, hell, he doesn't even have to make the team. Why on earth would you be negative about at least kicking the tires though? It's not like you're writing the check.

He's a guard, not a corner back. And an awfully good one with no injury history.

Awfully good g who hasn't played in a yr and half. Just don't get the love fest on bringing him in.

Lol me writing the check really doesn't have anything to do with it. They aren't bringing him to be a back up. I'm not being negative just don't understand why people assume he's coming in at 36 and not playing in a yr and half and gonna be the same as he was 2 seasons ago.

It's the idea that his guaranteed salary might be fairly high and that the player might not have the heart or be in the shape to contribute significantly. Hurting our cap and not helping the OL sufficiently.

Let's say he comes in and he sucks? You go back to Bernie and try to make do with what we have hoping Leary comes back strong and Fredrick solidifies the middle.

If he comes in and preforms decent (most likely, I believe) or like a pro bowler (not likely) and you have a vastly improved O-line capable of opening up running lanes for Murray and keeping Romo standing making our offense lethal.

It's a no lose risk. And now with Leary knee issue....its a risk you have to take.

That's my thing, you hit it on the head. Bring in players see what they have, create competition. If he isn't an upgrade then cut him. Churn the roster and make players compete for their job, never feel safe that its your job and nobody is better than you. Makes for a better team, top to bottom.

Agreed, that's the biggest consequence. But again, I think chances are Waters will at least be serviceable which is still an upgrade that will help a lot.

No its not. That's the part I really don't get. People act like the season is over if we don't and its saved if we do. I won't be upset if bring him in I just don't see the doom and gloom if we dont

If he sucks there will be more gnashing of teeth about how the front office are idiots and how they cost themselves salary cap room and lost some key veterans like Spencer next season.

Let's. Be real about things too. They aren't bringing him in to "compete". They are bringing him in to start. It won't be for chump change either

I think so, too. I'd say my confidence level is between 65-75% that he's a significant upgrade. I do worry some about a guy missing a lot of conditioning and coming in and getting a hammy or throwing his back out early in the year and never getting right. But Waters has been very healthy for a very long time, so he's probably doing something right. It's worth the risk.

I'm not opposed to kicking the tires on Waters. However, I think you wait for the cuts to start around the league. Someone is bound to pop up. Someone who won't break the bank and has competed recently. I think the downside is the waiting for the cuts. You don't get time to integrate a guy you pick up into your system as opposed to bringing Waters in right now.

There's pluses and minuses going either way.

We have some of the worst guards in the league and we just keep lowering the bar. Last year Bernadeau was awful but after seeing Arkin try to play there's now people around here actually talking them selves into believing he's serviceable. Waters would be an upgrade even a year removed from football not because anyone expects him to be all pro but because what we have right now is nothing short of awful

if you had bothered to do some checking, you would find that Waters had pretty much told the Patriots to take a hike; he wanted to play for Dallas or no one. He sat out last year VOLUNTARILY because he refused to play for the Pats and they refused to cut him. Feel better now?
