I know I come off as heartless...but I really don't give a damn. I am just thankful that the old SNF crew is not calling the game because it would be unwatchable. I am just tired of all they hype of this proclaimed "mini-superbowl" :ralph:

I think they could have spent their money in better ways than just the stadium so that maybe people can get their lives back there.

I look forward to it because it is another opportunity to watch the most exciting young player to come along in a very long time

MR. REGGIE BUSH! wow.....this guy is going to be special and NO is lucky to have him and Houston should be ashamed of theirself for not selecting him!

I could care less about the Saints and Falcons, but if this game helps those people concentrate on something other than their misery for a few hours, then more power to them. I'm happy for Sean Payton, but I don't think the Saints will go undefeated or even make the playoffs.

As far as how the money was spent, I'm sure there are people in New Orleans who are still struggling and don't give a hoot about the Superdome or tonight's game.

I'm interested in the game and hope NO wins but it has nothing to do with rebuilding of NO. I know many here in Houston just want them to go home as our crime rate has gone up 26% since Katrina hit over a year ago. We got the luxtury of having gangs in New Orleans come to Houston it has been real fun. :bang2:

Oh, they'll lay it on thick tonight ... ESPN, I mean.

Members of that broadcast crew will each try to outdo each other over who cares the most. It'll be sappy, no doubt.

Most networks, ESPN included, know how to sell sympathy.

ESPN is doing its best to hype the game up, but it's just not working.

Exactly. I am tired of the spin making this out to be more than a football game. Let the city work on getting their citizens out of Houston and back to New Orleans. Let them work on getting the infrastructure running again so I don't have to explain to katrina victims why I can't give them a $40,000 scholarship to the school I work for just because they are katrina victims.

My fantasy football opponent has Warrick Dunn going tonight and only needs 18 pts to beat me... 120yds + 1TD will do it for him. Against NO I think he does it.

Fingers crossed though eh.

Yeah, Houston is holding a huge bag of **** right now. I could not believe it when my girlfriend's neighborhood went from not bad, but basically safe...to murder central.

I actually conceal carry a .40 Beretta now when I go to her place.

Anyone who ever went to New Orleans even before Katrina knew how much of a problem was already there with violent crime. All the storm did was move it to other areas outside of NO and Houston was one of the places that got stuck with it.

It is sad how this is being portrayed. It isn't the poor folks who were displaced that are responsible for the sellouts -- it is the more affluent people who suffered comparatively little damage to their homes and lives. It is great that these folks are now getting behind the city -- and certainly the cash generated here is going to help NO. But if MNF tries to feed you the "city back on its feet" line you need to turn off the TV. I know the media really wants a positive story here -- and there is one. But that positive story is one of a hundred storylines going on down there -- most of them very unhappy.

Well, New Orleans is only 60 miles from my house, so the subject hits close to home. I don't necessarily believe that the money spent on the stadium could have been spent in better ways. Louisiana politicians would simply line their own pockets with it if given the opportunity. In addition, the money was not outrageous ($30 mil).

Those that I know that lost their homes have had no problems with the insurance companies. Some have chosen to start their new lives elsewhere. I guess I don't understand the problems that many are facing in getting their homes back, especially if they had insurance through a reputable company. Did they not have insurance? I would never buy a home without insurance.

In terms of football, it is nice to see a couple of unbeaten teams go head to head in a divisional matchup, especially with Reggie Bush on center stage. I don't care much for the hype either, but the matchup should be a good one as both teams are playing with a lot of confidence.

What about the displaced who were poor and likely could not afford to own homes? You know, like most of them?

It is true that New Orleans had a significant poverty-stricken population prior to Katrina; however, the news media seriously overblew the issue when it covered the tragedy.

Those that I refer to in my earlier post are the homeowners that moan and groan about their losses, but did not bother to pay insurance for their homes. I see them on TV every day.

True, many did not own their home they rented and the property owner is not willing to rebuild and you can't force them to rebuild on that land. Frankly parts of New Orleans is not worth rebuilding because of the constant problem with heavy flooding. This whole thing did not come as a shock most knew it was only a matter of time. For year they dodged the bullet this time they didn't after all we are talking about a city that is below sea level.

It's football, therefore I care about the game.

I can tune out the hype, just like I tune out Theisman.

Join the club. I have been tuning out Theismann for years. Especially after the "Norman Einstein" comment.
