Did he do a new contract with us?
Honestly, that would take away some of the sting for me.

However, I'm not sure we can since the Raiders already exercised up his 5th year option. I'm not sure when we are technically allowed to talk contract extension with Cooper.

Raiders are building a future Superbowl Champions while we are continuing the destruction of our team to prove Jerry was right going with Dak over Romo.....Viva i guess Viva....:(
They're following the Browns playbook of a few years ago. And, look now, Cleveland is celebrating that super bowl victory.

Oh wait. The Browns are still bad.

They have kept Garrett employed over 8 years, sooooooooooooooo...............

Honestly, I could see this move being what makes or breaks Garrett. We haven't exactly been stellar at WR this year, so Jerry's gone casino mode to try and fix that. So, that removes the WR excuse for Garrett, and this division is slow at the moment. Still, I absolutely HATE that we spent a 1st on this chap. I'd have been THRILLED if it was a 2nd. That for Cooper I'd have no issue with. A first is an overreach imo. I think the defence in this upcoming draft is going to be excellent, especially at DT. Unfortunately, the only way we get one of the top DTs is if they slide back, which means that Jerry has to gamble again. On the other hand, perhaps this isn't the only deal we make. Think about this, with how well we've been doing defencively, I wonder if we attempt to move Lee for a 2nd or 3rd? That might open up the possibility to move back into the first. As good as Lee is, I think LVE might be his undoing, and the Raiders could certainly use the help at LB. Plus, Gruden likes linebackers. Maybe we end up, if we're lucky, getting one of the Raiders firsts back in the offseason?

Exactly...……..this is a move to get 2-3 more wins so he can keep his freaking puppet Garrett.

Team goes 8-8, its real easy to sell the fans that "we are just right there, now is not the time to make a change".

Team goes 5-11, very difficult to sell that same crap to the fans, they usually want somebody's head on a platter.

Honestly, I just want Garrett gone, as far as that question goes. I'm fed up with him. On the other hand, I still think that it'd be a good move to see if they'll bite for Lee. Maybe we can get lucky there. I like Lee, but, with all the picks they've got, maybe this is our chance to turn the LB keys over to LVE officially. Gruden seemed to like Lee from the MNF booth, and, while he does get injured, he is the sort of chap that Gruden WOULD like. Depending on how the draft class is this year with LBs, maybe that's a move that Gruden can make.

Two reports came out in the last half hour.
The Eagles offered the Raiders a second rounder.
The Colts were interested and made an undisclosed offer (probably a 2nd).

The Raiders declined both offers.

If anything, I like this trade if it keeps the Eagles from getting a good receiver. Somehow it make this feel better.

This was really dumb. Cooper isn't worth more than a 3rd. He has been terrible. This is like getting Roy Williams all over again.

Yes, I knew we were competing with the Eagles, so I can see the logic for throwing in a first. I just wonder why we didn't consider moving Lee? Don't the Raiders have 3 first rounders now with the Mack trade? Couldn't we have used a 3rd and Lee? To me, that would make sense.

To vouch for him, I had been hearing at least the competition with those teams part. In fact, I thought it was more than just the Eagles and Colts going after Cooper, so I can certainly see the logic of that. I just still think that a first was a bit much. Then again, so might my 3rd and Lee idea be.

Yep. Jerry has mortgaged the future to keep the fans from marching with torches and pitchforks. He will do anything to protect Garrett.

Just seeing this.

So. Freaking. Stupid.

Now, we're also pretty much married to Dak for 2019, at least, for better or worse.

I guess the thing that really kills me about this trade is that wide receiver is not the handicap of this team. In yesterday’s game I saw receivers running wide open all over the field.

The issue right now is with conservative coaching and a QB who both isn’t reading the field well and isn’t calling out the incoming blitzers.

If Dak can’t find Beasley wide open in the center of the field how is he going to find Cooper?

For sure we would have gotten a better player at 9th overall next year.

I would have been ok if it was a first for Hopkins or something....but cooper......Meh. Besides....passing is not this teams strength so why even use resources to acquire a #1 wr that's not going to be targeted much in the first place. Plus the guy doesn't love football. Now you're basically gonna have to pay a player who has questions about his dedication to playing the sport.....stupid coaching/ stupid GM.

Well, on the bright side, I suppose that this puts a lot of pressure now, not only on Garrett and Linehan, but also Dak. He was clearly struggling with not much in the way of WRs. Now he's got one, and a high value one. So, this could be a shot at him too. I still think a better coach would help Dak, but maybe this helps us there too.

This was from NBC sports...see below...it was Silver who says presumably a second rounder.
Report: Eagles offered a second-rounder for Amari Cooper
Charean Williams,ProFootball Talk on NBC Sports 20 minutes ago

The Cowboys not only traded for Amari Cooper, but they kept the Eagles from trading for Amari Cooper.

The Eagles offered the Raiders a second-round pick for the receiver last week, Mike Silver of NFL Media reports. The Raiders turned it down, holding out for a first-rounder, which they eventually got from Dallas.

Silver reports the Colts also had interest in trading for Cooper for an undisclosed draft pick.

Nelson Agholor is the Eagles’ leading wideout, with 55 catches for 323 yards and a touchdown. (Tight end Zach Ertz leads the team in receiving with 78 catches for 618 yards and two touchdowns.) Alshon Jeffery has 39 receptions for 306 yards and four touchdowns in four games.

The Cowboys’ leading receiver is slot receiver Cole Beasley, who has 43 catches for 350 yards and two touchdowns. Rookie Michael Gallup ranks second among the team’s wideouts with 22 catches for 190 yards and a touchdown.

Yes, I don't like the playcalling either. That has been atrocious. Maybe this gets Linehan a bit braver on the playcalling. If he and Garrett are still making atrocious playcalls after this move, then I can't see any way that Jerry DOESN'T get rid of them. The draft is one of the big ways they've been making their money, so to speak.
