many here have proven they will defend this front office no matter what.

just as there are some here who hate everything the front office does.

Unfortunately for the Apologists, the Truthers have been right a whole lot more.

This is also the team that in one off-season, spent a 1st and a 2nd (Claiborne) and significant cap room (Carr) on two man corners, only to switch to a zone-heavy scheme a year later. There is no plan. This Front Office overreacts and then dedicates significant time to excuses and rationalization.

Truer words were never spoken.

It's how at one point, Jerry and Stephen are talking about their extensive analysis that shows it's not wise to invest a lot in the TB position given the injury risk and overall risk of return on the investment.

Then 12 months later, they blow that theory up and take Elliott 4th.

They have no plan. They just fire from the hip.

I'm not even sure what is worse the trade for Roy Williams or this.

3 picks for RW really set this team back. A team that was ready to compete if the front office was capable of smart decisions. But they are not.

I noticed Zeke was split out as a WR quite a bit yesterday. I watched him specifically on one play and he tripped over his own feet trying to juke the CB on what appeared to be a go route. Fell flat on his face. Zeke can catch some balls out of the backfield but he's not a WR. He's not the threat Cooper will be out wide. Upgrading the receiving corps was a necessity.

I agree that it could be a ploy to smoke out Garrett... But I lean harder toward the idea that with Amari and two or three more wins, Garrett doesn't look as much like a total failure this year. Thus Jerry has traded a first for the justification to keep Garrett in Dallas. The fans think everything is hunky dorry at 8-8 so the Dallas machine's gears grind on.

I could see that as well. However, the fanbase was, as I recall, LIVID at the 9-7 (practically 8-8 if not for the fact that Philly had nothing to play for the last game) last season. I think that Jerry must realise that the fanbase isn't all that keen on going 7-9, 8-8, or 9-7 unless it means playoffs. We were screaming bloody murder after the 3rd 8-8 in 2013 as well, so surely Stephen has to remember that (I'd say Jerry, but he's probably drunk that memory away, hasn't he?). So, my logic is that it's the former of what you said. Either we make the playoffs, or the Garrett nightmare HAS to finally be over. We KNOW Garrett's an 8-8 chap. He's average. We don't want average. We want great, but I'd take at least consistently better than average at this point.

This thread is 58 pages long so I'm not going to go through it and check.

Has someone said how this trade was really a 1st for Cooper and a 4th? Since we'll probably cut Thompson now and get back the 4th round compensatory pick ?

Next. Level.

Well, if you want to play that game then it's actually a 1st and Hitchens for Copper and a 4th. I know which two I'd rather have going forward.

I don't like this trade. I'm worried about the Oline & our QB and this pick could end up being top 10.

However, if I have to defend it:

If they were dead set on picking a WR with the pick anyway, it's possibly a good move. Typically, the allure of the 1st pick is the cheap cost for four years plus the option. However, WRs generally take a few years to realize their potential in the NFL.--they rarely make a large impact in their first few years. With this move, you have a proven WR in his prime for the same cost (1st rd pick), you just have to pay him a little more.

Ok, I was going to enjoy some banter back and forth with you over Tua because I beg to differ on QBs like him that have all day to throw and hit guys wide open every play (ala Matt Leinert) until you said he's better than Prescott. No matter your feeling on Dak, that's ridiculous statement.
I stand by my "ridiculous" statement. :)

Again, I can see the logic, and I certainly think that WR had to be a priority next draft. However, I'm not so sure a 1st is necessarily a priority pick for WR, especially if a top safety, DT, or even another LB (wouldn't THAT be great?) is available. I suppose that those could be had later in the draft, so maybe it's not all that bad. Plus, there's BOUND to be players that were billed as first rounders that might just fall to us in round 2. So, that could be another part of the logic. Plus, IF it is indeed true that we get a 4th back for parting ways with Thompson, then that adds another dimension to it.
