That's where we differ, I guess. I just don't think that 9-7 will rustle any jimmies. 4-12, however, changes will have to be made. But 9-7 gets another two years of trying to make conditions perfect for Garrett/Dak to succeed.
If Cooper is the difference between 9-7 and 4-12 then he is more than worth it

PHI sucks
NYG really sucks
WAS is beatable at HOME and very old

A few problems with that logic.

The pick is very likely to be higher than 25.

We weren't guaranteed to take a WR. This draft is incredibly deep at defensive line, impactful defensive linemen too.

And if you're asking me if I want Amari Cooper, at 24, for a season and a half OR N'Keal Harry at age 21 for 5 seasons, give me N'Keal all day long.
To me, if you are in the October and you have already narrowed down you draft to " we are taking a WR in the first", then you arent doing team building right

A few reasons why Amari >> 2019 1st round WR:

I have to admit, these are good points. The hit rate on 1st round WRs has been pretty abysmal for years now, and that might be one reason why teams have valued them so highly in recent years in trades + free agency.

That being said, I don't like the price and I don't like the player. Cooper's career has been trending the wrong way and he's both a drop machine and the lord of the sub-20 yard game.

Lee is a GREAT LB who is injured 50% of the season ......we might get a 4th rounder or a 3rd for SB contention team.....

Alright, and extra 4th (for cutting Thompson) and an extra 3rd isn't dreadful value, and I do think it's possible that we can get a 2nd for Lee. If the LB class isn't great in this draft or better than what Lee can bring Gruden, then I could see a 2nd being parted for him. The reason I was saying a first from the Raiders is because they have 3 picks in that round, so I think they might be a little more inclined to part ways with it, especially if old Jerry boy can jimmy up some competition for him.

terrible take but expected

LOL. How is it terrible?

The money is inconsequential. We have cap space to absorb his contract.

We traded what could be a very valuable draft pick for a "chance" on a guy that hasn't played well in a year and a half. To say it costs us nothing or is free, is just kind of silly.

That's the dumbest logic yet in this thread.

So trade away your first round pick because you aren't close to being a contender?

When you typed this, did you think it through?

I noticed that also....……….not exactly what that dude is getting at.

If you totally suck, you should acquire more picks like the Raiders are doing. What you don't do is trade away all of your picks if you suck.

You know its a bad trade when even the people defending it sound stupid.

Agreed, and if getting a 4th for him is possible, then we really should do it.

It appears they are cutting Butler instead. I understand that he's at the bottom of the pecking order, but Cooper will be moving to the top, which pushes everyone else down. Thompson gets some snaps, but is now behind Beasley, Cooper, Hurns and Gallup, which means that pretty much his only role with be kick returner.

The byproduct of this deal is Dak will be the the QB next year. Kind of hard to pick or trade for a “franchise QB” without a 1st round pick.

Jerry still thinks the problem is with the WRs.

The problem is Dak.

He can’t throw the football 5 feet.

By the way, where did all the Sean Lee trade talk come from?

This Cooper trade is a win now move. Trading away Sean Lee would be the opposite.

I'm suggesting it for after the season. Not now, but, let's face it, after the season, I think we will likely be wanting to part ways from him, no? If we are, then I suggested that seeing what Gruden would want to do about him. He's a big proponent of experienced players, and I think he'd love to have Lee AFTER the season. So, my logic was that now that the Raiders have 3 firsts, maybe see if we can get one back for Lee after the season.

Oh, so didn't get that all important 4th rounder back?

LOL.

I have no problem with this trade. Cooper is a first round talent. He's immediately the best WR we have on the team. I've been saying since before the first game, this team has a chance if they can hover around .500 all year and then get hot in mid-November or December. The defense is improved and will be good, if not great when healthy. I have no idea whether or not Fredrick will return, but if the OL doesn't get its act together, this season is toast....we don't have a QB who can do it on his own, and we don't have a RB who can do that either, though in fairness very few RBs can.

If Cooper comes in and makes a difference, moves the sticks and draws attention from other guys, and if the OL can just solidify a little, we are still a playoff contender. Philly isn't doing much on offense either. Washington is a very good team that the media hasn't followed.

Well, can't we just cut both Thompson and Butler? Also, that makes the signing of Butler pointless. Why not just get a safety or another guard in that case? WR was full as it was.

That's the question. Is he a seven-point or four-point difference for the offense? With four points, we beat both the Texans and Commanders.

However, I don't believe the receivers were the problem in either of those games, so this still looks like an 8-8 team to me.

We can, but it would surprise me.
