I don't think Linehan wanted Orton. That's jmo based on the few comments he made when asked about Orton.
I think they decided to release him, because they wanted somebody who'd been in the program all offseason and had bought into what the team was selling. Orton being away and suggesting he was going to "retire" left a sour taste in their mouth that was similar to Ratliff. They just decided to move on. I think it's time for fans to move on, too.
Until the next one? Ratliff, Orton, () If they really decided to just move on, he would've been released in the off season with no stigma/controversy attached. We wanted the money back and wanted to move on maybe...then he said "nice try"? I would have deactivated his ace and sat him. They lost that money for nada, and more importantly, without a suitable back up plan for Romo's health. Ugly
