considering the press and the threads that were sprouting up about this guy i expected him to be all world. but then again he is the great white hype....

Yes, he'll have to make some plays eventually (say the next two games), but tonight wasn't his undoing.

and what play are you defining him on? not to get into the debate here, i'm pulling for everyone so i can cop out of silly discussions like this - but honestly, how many plays did he have and what are you judging all the positives on? camp?

well, the same as every other rookie in camp. Amendola did not have enough of anything in one MEANINGLESS preseason game to say one way or the other, so yes camp is the only thing we have to go by.

I do not know how many times people have to say he will never return punts before that kicks in, but take them out and you have but one play on offense that he had no shot at receiving being that it was a very bad and low pass by Bartel.

I just ignored every thread about him. He really wasn't hyped that much, there were just a lot of threads about him on this board because there really isn't much else to talk about this training camp as the roster was 95% set before training camp began.

Yeah I would have to agree with that statement. People was acting as thought he would really be a big time player for Dallas.

and your point is? really...... go ahead and say that now everyone will be down to earth about the guy, maybe but people only have training camp to go by with the guy.

Hell, I am disappointed when guys like LB Justin Rogers does poorly, but you will never see me come on this board and say "ha ha see told you he is not that good"

Cowboy fans root for all players or none at all.

so you willingly put common sense down and let the press tell you what to think?

You expected an NFL "walk on" to dominate in his first game? Hell, there were probably first rounders around the league who had worse games this weekend.

Exactly. What did people expect? For him to impress like Felix or Jenkins?

The reality with Amendola is that some of the hype has been just as ridiculous as the criticism. If he makes the team, it's probably going to be as a guy who is inactive for the majority of the season and may not become a guy who sees the field much until 2009 or 2010. But if he can stick around for that long, you just might start to see some of his ability to shine through.

It's highly unlikely a short, undrafted kid makes the team and contributes in a heavy way this season --- whether we're talking Amendola or anybody else. You saw last night the kid still has a long way to go. But that doesn't mean he stinks and should be cut now. I think he has some well-documented natural ability that, in time, could be harnessed.

This thread illustrates the folly of message board battle lines.

He had a tough first game.

He was a UDFA.

This is not a big deal.

GTF over it.

Go Danny Amendola.

that's how it goes. the harder people push someone down on you the more resistance they get and then it just gets stupid from there in arguments. he's a raw kid with a lot of potential. the IGS wants that to happen now and those tired of it will scream every time he misses a pass. or fumbles.

but like i said, welke...amendola has been pushed pretty hard by several people and all that does is get people sick of the hype and they hit the opposite extreme.

and then you get threads like this. : ) he's still got a world of potential and we've got a whole camp to see how he does. just wish people would give him that time vs. shove him down our throats or fight the bitter fight of resistance.

Please. The anti-Amendola crowd has been louder than anything. I really couldn't care less if the kid makes the team or not, but the constant hounding about hype and how he was no Wes Welker got ridiculous, and I started pushing back. Maybe that was just me, but the negativity towards this guy is unreal, and it got on my nerves.
