We will be $60 million under the cap once we restructure Dak and Lamb and re-sign Parsons. Technically, we can create much more space than that, but those three are the easiest (and most logical) moves.

Free agency starts in less than a thousand hours. Jerry and Stephen might want to start the restructures, make necessary cap space for the free agents they intend to pursue. That’s assuming they, and the new coaching staff, can meet and come to a “meeting of the minds”. Do they have any idea of what it is they want to do?

Stephen Jones, two days after free agency starts: “we haven’t thought about it.”

The thing to keep in mind is that the Eagles probably won't regress and the Commanders will most likely improve more than we will because they have a rookie qb not making 60 million a year.

The Commanders will utilize FA to its fullest and we pick up mediocre talent.

We will be battling the Giants for the cellar
Bad news: Dallas will be battling for the cellar for the next three years until our elite qb is no longer on the team.

  • Here’s a truth long forgotten in Dallas: The fastest way to build a great roster is to start with the trenches. A dominant OL/DL is a foundation! Focus on developing a monster of an OL and DL. We need at least 2 new starting OL and at least 2 beast DL run stoppers/pocket collapsers. This year’s draft is deep in DTs who could immediately have an impact.
OL Park, Texas in the 1st round

In free agency sign the likes of Kelvin Beachum who was a player under Adams

The 13-year veteran is still going strong at 36-years old, grading at a 75.4 (out of 100) in pass protection according to Pro Football Focus. In fact, Beachum has graded out green or better (green and blue are the positive ranges) every season since his rookie campaign in 2012.

With Dallas having to give serious consideration to replacing Terence Steele this offseason, Beachum may be the perfect bridge player. In fact, two of his three highest-graded games were as the starter at left tackle. At minimum, Beachum should be an immediate addition as the club’s swing tackle, and then Dallas can consider things from there.

https://cowboyswire.usatoday.com/2025/01/31/cowboys-free-agency-offensive-line-cardinals/

More buck for the money is taking a top level running back in round 1 or 2. Add in a defensive tackle with picture of the top three picks. Use picks to trade up and even consider a future strong pick.

This will free cap and add very high talent as it did with Philadelphia.

Resign Osa now.

Adding Beachum, Osa, Banks, and then Ashton Jeanty, with a Darius Alexander.

Alexander is not a guy you have heard about often in this year’s draft cycle... yet. The 6-foot-3, 310-pound interior defensive lineman is coming off an excellent year at Toledo where he recorded four sacks, 25 hurries, and a pass rush win-rate of 12.8%. Alexander is also coming off a nice week at the Reese’s Senior Bowl, proving to be one of the top interior defensive linemen in Mobile. If Matt Eberflus is looking for big, long, and fast three-techniques, Alexander checks all the boxes.

Go with the top runner for both future cap bend and a top scale offensive force for five years.

Stephen Jones put it into words for us the other day when he said, frankly, "We have a good culture. But we don't have a 'championship culture.''

I don't know what a "good culture'' is. I do know what a "championship culture'' is: It's a team that can make that claim only after it wins. Therefore, it's impossible to know if a) Dallas is sincere about making changes in its "culture'' and b) if Dallas, if indeed it is sincere, has any idea what to change.

Lift more weights? Firm up curfews? More pats on the butt? More kicks in the butt? More inspirational slogans on T-shirts? Who knows?

Notably, asked how he hopes to be remembered as the Cowboys coach, "Schotty'' said the boldest of things.
“A champion,'' he said. "And builder of one of the greatest cultures the sport has ever seen.”

The roster Brian Schottenheimer has inherited as of this moment is not going to strike fear in any opponents eyes. There are obviously a few talented players here but if we plan on getting to at least that elusive conference championship, here‘s a mini-vision to get that done. Holes are abundant but they can be addressed fairly quickly. I think it will realistically take two years to develop.

Heres the big picture plan and it starts in the trenches where all great teams are built. Quite simply, the Cowboys need to get waaaaaay more physical. The two teams playing the SB this year (and most years) have a dominant DT (chiefs have Chris Jones, egirls have Jalen Carter) Time for us to recognize this and take action.
  • Don’t take the bait in drafting a RB at 12. Don’t do it. This is a deep draft for RBs and we can get a really good one on Day 2. Drafting a RB in round one is a waste because unless you find a generational talent, they will be washed in 5-6 years. Hello Zeke.
  • Add at least two upgrades a year with FAs. I don’t care what a talking Jones guy tells us that we are a “draft and develop” team only, without at least 2-3 mid-level FAs a year added to your roster, you cannot be a serious contender. The next two years we should look at adding help at LB, WR, and perhaps OL if the draft doesn’t give us immediate impact.
  • Since are stuck with Dak for at least 3 years, build a monster OL and running game. The top 6 rushing teams in this league all made the playoffs in 2024 and it‘s a trend. A strong running game is exactly what Dak needs. A great running game opens play action back up, something we haven’t been able to use effectively in a while.
  • Consider two key June 1 cuts that can save future cap space. Many won’t like this but I would release Trevon Diggs as a June 1 cut and Terance Steele in 2026 as a June 1 cut. Diggs IMO will never be the same with his knee and he costs way too much to be just above average. Deron Bland is better anyway. Steele is already in decline and we could possibly move Tyler Guyton to RT at some point which is a more comfortable position for his skills. Tough decisions have to made and this FO isn’t ruthless enough with its roster.
Amazingly, the fundamentals of football still matter, especially if you don’t have an elite QB, which very few teams do. (Jalen Hurts is nothing special but he’s surrounded by a great OL and running game) The teams that can block and tackle the best are always going to be competitive. So let’s build a big, physical monster of a team the next two years!
well bob better fax this over to the star addressed to the jones boys !
or to Shotty, he might actually look at it.
I agree a rb at 12 is stupid, get a lineman D or O
I agree on diggs, but jones boys wont do that.

Naturally RBs, QBs, WRs etc are more exciting to watch if they're good, but when are fans going to learn that the trenches are where it's at! That's the place to start! If you don't fix the trenches, you're not going to win. Period. Fix the trenches first!

I understand your feeling about not taking Jeanty but that dude is a generational talent and would be hard to pass on if he was sitting there at 12. I know that most RBs only last 5-6 years at most but Derrick Henry just played his ninth season and was fantastic so there are exceptions. A compromise would be to trade down to 15 or 16, still get Jeanty because the teams from 13 to 15 already have their RB and move up in the second or third round or get an extra pick in the first few rounds and get your DT or offensive lineman
Can we at least let Jeanty play a couple of seasons in the NFL before we label him a generational talent. From what I gathered Jeanty was most effective and excelled at outside zone runs. Based on the chart comparison someone post of the new OC, his preference was inside zone and man. I’m sure Jeanty could perform adequately but would think a bigger back like Hampton or Henderson would be a better fit!

Actually, the new OC, Adams, is an outside zone dude. Arizona ran the ball outside much more than Dallas did

We might be stuck with Dak. But that doesn't mean we can't draft his replacement, and if he beats Dak out, he can either sit on the bench or ask for a trade.
It's hard to build a team around a quarterback players do not believe in.
I don't want to waste 3 years when you can be developing the stud quarterback that's going to take you to the Super Bowl.
We are not going to have a good winning record this year, so it's a great time to hit the quarterback draft in 2026.

I guess the term "generational" now is like "literally" where we don't even pretend it means what it meant for hundreds of years.

Nope. Jerry runs the draft.
Right. I’m not sure why some fans want to credit the draft on McClay.

He’s just our chief talent scout as VP of player personnel. He sets the board up to select from. Ultimately our GM and Son make the selections.

Yea, Im not sold on him either. Almost non factor in playoffs.

I’d take someone like a Brooks from Texas Tech in middle rounds. He led Big 12 in rushing.
