First thing I do to see if someone is credible is check to see if there are any reptiles in the avatar.

putting a rating system on this board would never work.

If you do that I would imagine you will lose members, at least the ones worth talking to and reading.

Having a ZS tag doesn't make you credible.

Being cool with the staff members doesn't make you credible.

Shoot, being a staff member doesn't make you credible. Just ask Yeager.

It's about the quality of posts and it only takes a minute to read to see if the post was quality. Some of the Zone's more highly credible members don't have a high post count. But when they post, I definitely take the time to see what they have to say.

And if you think a member doesn't generate credible posts, then put them on ignore. Easiest way to filter them out of the equation.

The software system we use has a user reputation system and we have weighed the pros and cons of using it or not.

Seems a little inappropriate though because I could see a case where just because one poster takes a position many might disagree with, he would somehow get a low reputation.
