REPORT: COWBOYS COULD CUT SAFETY ROY WILLIAMS

Posted by Aaron Wilson on February 26, 2009, 2:33 p.m.
The Dallas Cowboys may cut ties with former Pro Bowl safety Roy Williams, according to Adam Schefter of NFL Network, a potential transaction that would create an additional $2.18 million against the 2009 salary cap.
Williams finished last season on injured reserve with a broken forearm, starting just two games and recording six tackles.
For his career in Dallas since being drafted in the first round in 2002 out of Oklahoma with the eighth overall pick, Williams has 506 tackles and 19 interceptions.
Meanwhile, Schefter reports that the Cowboys are expected to cut backup quarterback Brad Johnson for an additional $2 million in salary-cap space.

What begins exactly?

This has been reported like 50 times all in speculation mode.

We all think it could happen and would make sense but it hasn't happened yet so what has begun?

Cut Johnson, cut or restructure Roy, Ellis, and Henry. Free up some cap space and get younger in all those positions.

I expect to see that we "could cut just about anybody" rumors the rest of the off season.

Johnson will be cut. Williams may still restructure.

Assuming that RW does restructure, I wonder how high we draft a Safety?

Even with RW restructuring, we need better play at that position.

But maybe we look to Round 3 or 4 for help rather than Round 2.

I'd give Roy the option of restructuring if it makes good financial sense.

Brad Johnson should be charged with robbery.

Why he hasn't been ingloriously punted already is beyond me.

It is interesting though because I believe I just heard Cowturd's commercial saying Roy is with him in studio for tomorrow's show. Not sure if it means anything and really don't care but it caught my attention. Roy sucks now. Great guy--weak link.

I don't think Roy has ANY trade value, not even a 6th rounder.

Not unless he agreed to a restructure prior to trade and then its still a meager pick at very best.

I think most coaches would love him for the limited situations he can help you in if it just meant a 6th or 7th round pick and near no cap cost.

There are no guarantees but it is quite possible we beat Baltimore if RW is playing SS on those 2 ridiculous runs.

He is not good at coverage but he can fill holes.

How is it robbery when our inept braintrust all but handed him the money knowing he wouldn't be able to perform. If they didn't know, then it is even worse. Pretty much anyone could have watched him in the preseason and realize we would have been in trouble if Romo was injured.

I don't blame him. I blame who was responsible for recommending him and of course, the individual who kept him on the roster. We all know who that is.

If we cut Roy he will be picked up immediately and starting next year for whatever team picks him up.

Okay. Who is saying he'd be a bum living out on the street?

If we can't get him signed for less, trade him or do not want him at his current salary, what would you have the team do? Hang onto him for dear life so we don't rue the day we cut him?

Did not say that ...... but people are acting like no other team will want him.

The end of an error.
