Like many of you, I watched his show growing up. I still enjoy watching it when I can catch it on TV. The show reminds me of a simpler time when the world was not so corrupt. I am truly saddened to hear of Andy's passing. RIP Andy, you will be missed.

Very true.

You weren't bombarded with jokes about sex or ex-wives/husbands or dysfunctional families.

I'm so very sad about this news.

Someone posted this video on one of the music threads awhile back. I'd never heard the song before but wanted to share it again today.

The absolute best episode of the Andy Griffith Show was "Opie the Birdman."

Opie has a slingshot and he kills a bird. Later he learns that she had babies.

I was always struck by the fact that Opie's mama had died, and then he had this moment in his life when he cared for Winkin', Blinkin', and Nod.

I felt it was as poignant a moment in TV History as I had ever witnessed because there was so much symbolism in it. From the punishment, to the remorse, to the responsibility he took.

In my not so humble opinion one of the best TV shows we have ever been blessed with in this country.

Agreed.....
The life lessons this show taught many of us were priceless.
Perhaps we need more shows like this instead of a lot of the trash that rules the airwaves today.

Yep. That was a great episode.

Like a lotta shows the early ones (black & whites) where better than the later ones (colored).

Agree! The 60's had great shows like that and we're stuck with Real Housewives and crap like that. I watch ALOT of TV Land.

BTW..for all interested in tribute to TAGS TV Land is running a marathon of TAGS all day long tomorrow. I heard it advertised a while ago. Setting my DVR!

And how great a lesson did Andy teach his son. Rather than whipping him he opened the window and made him listen to the baby birds. Superb writing!

I too really enjoyed the show. While it didn't really hit hard on the issues of the times, it did, as Hos pointed out, did address important and touching issues. That made the show unique and really opened the door for shows that addressed other issues.

I was also really amused by Mayberry piece Ron Howard and Andy Griffith did back in 2008. I'd post a link, but the content doesn't seem appropriate for the board. Google it if you like. It also had Henry Winkler.

I was very impressed with it so I'm glad you two enjoyed it. The reason I watched it was because I saw her on some AMC or TMC retrospective and she was talking about Andy and how great he was in the movie. I love old movies so that made me curious and it was surprising to see how good an actor he really was because all I had known till that time was TAGS.

For those interested TV LAND is doing a marathon of TAGS all weekend. That show is big business for that channel. Glad to see them honoring him!

I need to dig up some old MATLOCK episodes. He was very good in that and Don Knotts did guest spots on that show as well.

I bet the BIO Channel will rerun his BIO and the shows as well. They usually do when somebody passes on.

Their first collaboration was in the movie "No Time for Sergeants." Andy played a Gomer Pyle like character. Don was a Sergeant Carter like character.

I checked Netflix and they don't have it available to stream and I called a few video rental places and they don't have it. Anyone know where it could be streamed on line? (legally).
