It was a dump the last 3-4 years of its existence- 2005-08…but only because the Cowboys organization chose not to invest any repairs because they knew the the new stayjum was coming. I can understand that decision.

But in its hey-day, Texas Stadium was an icon of the Cowboys dominance of the 70s and 90s. I saw dozens of Cowboys games, college fb games as well as several HS playoff games, and even some big concerts there. It was a true football home field. You felt closer to the action and getting in and out there was way better than the nightmare that AT&T is today.

Putting it another way- Texas Stadium felt like a true football home field. AT&T feels like a shopping mall where a football game is being staged.
Yea, this thread wasn’t intended to bash new stadium but rather to commemorate Texas Stadium. An opportunity to reflect back on our glorious eras we embraced and cherished.

Home of 5 World Championships and all of the wonderful memories we have from the early Doomsdays to the 90’s . When the Cowboys were considered the class franchise of the NFL.

Texas Stadium represented our amazing area and Iconic brand that was built with that success on the field .

i dont get the hate on here for the new stadium....ive been there 2 times and its still the most incredible sports venue i have ever seen. The ammenities, the site lines, the ability to look up for the replays on the tv are all incredible for the viewing experience. The old stadium was just that - old and run down....i saw many games there and yes i have good childhood memories but i think people are bluring the memories of watching a championship team in a crappy venue vs a midling team in a championship venue.

If the cowboys were great the place would be rocking...and it has, look at the seattle playoff game a few years back - anyone that was at that game on here will tell you it was electric, loud and an incredible expereince. Maybe the issue isnt as much the venue as much as it is giving the fans a reason to cheer....

The other piece as well is the cost which texas stadium didn't have the same issue with becuase of the time it was being used - ticket prices in recent years have gone up incredibly to the point that fewer and fewer average fans can attend the games regularly which means more people / businesses selling their seats to cover the costs and make profits.
I don’t at all “hate” the new place, I just miss TS, which was a great place to see a game in several ways. As is the new one, but as far as an intimate setting (for a lack of a better way to put it), the two are night and day different.

I get it...have you ever done the miller lite club? Thats pretty dang intimate too (right behind the bench)....but yes the bowl design is more out then up vs the old two tier design that felt more "intimate".

Ha, no I haven’t. Poor choice of words as mentioned.

I more so meant the sight lines. The upper level in TS would be the 300 level in the new place. And there were times when it got LOUD there with that roof the way it was. That’s just kind of gone with the size of the new place and the amount of opposing fans.

First time I went to the new place I was in awe. Stunned. It’s just very different, and something that was certainly bound to happen eventually.

One thing being a Cowboys fan during the Jerry Jones ego era has taught me is to accept that more than likely, the best parts of the whole thing are very much behind us.

AT&T stadium is a beautiful venue . I’ve enjoyed attending College and High School games. It just doesn’t feel like “ home” to the Dallas Cowboys.

And it certainly hasn’t provided the home field advantage Texas Stadium had nor the championship history. Perhaps when that happens it will begin to feel more like home ?

Other than that I like the new venue. I’m just sad Texas Stadium had to be demolished . I still enjoy attending the Cotton Bowl too for College and High school games where I first attended Cowboy games .

I’m a history buff and love the old stadiums and their memories . I’ve been fortunate to attend several Iconic stadiums across the country. From Lambeau to Candlestick and Wrigley to Fenway.

Between NFL, MLB, and college football, I’ve seen many a venue.

Seeing a game at Fenway or Wrigley is one experience, and totally different in a modern one, and each has their pros and cons. Like Deion, I’ll take both.

One place that stood out for me most as far as history…The Orange Bowl in Miami. I lived down there for a few years and would go to most UM games, as my buddies were alumns. Id always think of the history, and what it may have been like to be there for a particular event….two Dallas/Pitt SB, Jets over Colts, undefeated Dolphins, Winslow game….I’d get chills.

Such a better atmosphere than AT&T….Texas Stadium was bare bones but charming as heck. JerryWorld is all flash and no substance.
all flash and no substance... like jerry's plans to get back to the super bowl these last 3 decades

Is it the stadium or is it the team playing in the stadium?

Go back and rewatch the Seattle wildcard win there and listen to the crowd noise - additionally the posters on here that went to that came cam verify that it was an incredible experience.

Give the fans something to cheer about and that venue can be as incredible as any

I’d love to hear some first hand stories of when you were allowed to bring a cooler of beer in since Irving was dry.
Not at Texas Stadium but you could at the old Texas Ranger Stadium in Arlington. Circa 1993 I believe. Good times.

I drive by that site a couple times a month but it is so different now I couldn't tell you where the stadium actually used to be. The old stadium was grand old dame though. I miss her ...
My family ( first my Mom & Dad and then my family) had season tickets for the Dallas Cowboys for over 35 years.

Wish they would have just renovated Texas Stadium while using the Cotton Bowl for a couple of seasons while the work was done.

The Death Star simply hasn't been the home that Texas Stadium was.
Unfortunately, the current group does not have the talent of those dominant 90 teams but AT&T stadium does get loud. Season ticket holder here.

I realize the answer is money, but I’m surprised they couldn’t work out a deal to build the new stayjum next to the old one.

There was no lack of space. Even if they had to play in the Cotton Bowl for a season I’d have rather seen that than what we ended up with.
That's what the Broncos and Falcons did --- built the replacing stadium "right next door" to the old one, while the Seahawks built their new facilty at the same spot as the Kingdome after it was demolished. The Seahawks' home games were at Husky Stadium (University of Washington) for two seasons while Seahawks Stadium - now Lumen Field - was being constructed.

So, what's in that spot now? Condos? Parking? Nothing?
New apartments have been put up in the area. I believe right where the stadium was is construction equipment as they are upgrading the freeways around that area: 183 and 114 hwys. I drive by it on the way to work sometimes.

I went to school in Irving, and attended a lot of games during the late 90's. It was dumpy, but still had character and charm.

New stadium feels like a mall built around a television. Captures too much of the American experience for my liking.

Maybe, but I was at that tuna can of a stadium in June of 1992. Definitely not byob. Had to be an earlier time.

The TS thing I read about in what I think was a book about Jerry. There was a part about how he finally got to be able to sell beer retail. Game changer.

I was there for Super Bowl XIII. We thought it was pretty ran down . Almost as bad as RFK in Washington. The stadium swayed and wobbled with fans movements.
