Another safety hits the market

He was being hyped as the next Kam Chancellor due to his size and speed. I'd stash him away because ive become a Kris Richard fan. If marinelli is the defensive lineman whisperer then Richard must be the defensive back whisperer. I feel like he would get melifonwu to his full potential if he could stay healthy. With all of our previous so called gamble's like Gregory, and Smith and Irving off KC's practice squad I could wait half. A season or even until next season for that kind of talent to possibly bloom under Richard. He could be a hybrid LB/SS like Kam Chancellor was
Good points.

Yes, The one i was talking to asking questions about waiving somebody, being able to put a waiver in in a injured player, and if we would be responsible for the rest of the contract.. Sounds sketchy..

Sad part is I can see us taking a hard look...

Another combine warrior

Oh, right. I thought you were talking about the Spanish footballer. Well, as for the safety, I dunno what's all going on, but it does sound dodgy, doesn't it?

Uber dodgy!! i dont waiver injured players, and we cant waiver claim unless been waived, and given injury settlement..lol

Somebody say that this guy has been waived with proof, and say that we should waiver an injured guy...Or Denied!!

I admit , i would have speed jettisoned Gregory, and i still would if he dirties, or Gives up 100 yards, rushing to a team..

Oh, I would have as well. Yet, we've kept him, and we're nearly as chance giving as the Raiders are. So, I think it's something rather severe.

If this is about an injury, how does he help the Cowboys? ASKING not criticizing..I remember him from last year..If he was waived, passed thru waivers, He on the practice squad or available as a free agent..or Ir practice sd!
If it is an injury it only cost 700k to stash him for next season. But the deal is the raiders haven't seen the guy in two weeks and call it a mystery injury. It could be a bad relationship situation similar to Jay Ratliff or Sua Cravens.

This is the guy we will sign.

Project, injured. We will pay him more than Iloka got

Sad but true (cue Metallica), although there’d be no shortage of hand wringers, no matter who we signed, ET included.

They sign Thomas, and people would celebrate, screaming championship. Of course that activates the “Overspend for a Declining Star Crowd”.

There’s no win here. Besides, Fredbeard’s Out, Martin’s out, Dak sucks, we have no WRs, Tyron has a bad back, Gregory’s a pothead waiting to happen, and it’s only a matter of time before our glass LBer(s) patrol the sidelines with a clipboard. We’re doomed. The Fat Lady’s warming up, but we’ve got alternatives: AGT’s live shows and Deadpool 2 on DVD! Yes!

Gruden wasn't their coach last year. He has no investment in him.
His interest is getting wins. But he decided it would be better to cut a yr 2 player, that was drafted high.

I don't believe the Cowboys are in any position to pass up on potential talent, especially at the safety position. Some things to consider:

  • He is still young and only in his second year. Most players have a "grace period" of three years before their potential starts to emerge (see DeMarcus Lawrence, a guy that most was ready to cut after his rookie season, but now is considered one of the premier pass rushers in the league).
  • There are questions about Obi's work ethic and dedication. However, he has ties to Byron Jones, whom many consider the leader of the defensive backs. If there was ever a teammate that would mentor and help Obi develop into maturity, it would likely be Jones.
  • The Oakland Raiders pass defense as a whole was pretty bad last year. You can't place all of the blame for bad play on Obi. His current production and player value are partially based on the talent around him. The Cowboys now have a defensive back coach, along with improved leadership and player skill around, that may help develop Obi into his full potential.

Since he's free to acquire, I wouldn't mind if they claimed him. If he sucks, then cut him with no repercussions.

This is one of those draft picks I was horribly wrong about and everyone here was right about

Another Byron Jones type of guy great for the Olympics bad for the Gridiron...
