Anthony Spencer will/has sign/ed franchise tender

If we let him play under the tag or sign him to a huge deal like he is rumored to want and most think he would get on the open market it will be a huge mistake. Either trade him or sign if he's willing to take a less than what he and the market will pay him. Anything over 8mil a year is to much. And 8 is stretching it.

Spencer certainly has Pro Bowl 4/3 DE potential. The same Pro Bowl status Austin and Barber attained their respective positions.

Out of the three, give me Spencer at DE...alll day long....and twice on Sundays.

Anthony should dominate vs the run and be one of the best in the League rushing the passer from the Strong Side LE position in the 4/3.

If they let him play under the tag it would be a completely mishandling of the situation.

Worst possible outcome is to let him play again under the tag.

Crap or get off the pot.

Rather have Anthony Spencer working for a contract. He plays much better that way.

So what do you do next year?

Some of you folks are missing the point. we are an 8 and 8, team even with guys like Spencer. and have missed the playoffs 4 of the last 5 years.he had one good year this past season, and JJ up and pays him 10 million dollars a year. did we learn nothing after paying guys like Austin and M. Barber, a lot of money after one good year. stop bringing the same players back and expecting a different result.

1) Good players at key positions are what helps get beyond 8-8. Letting a good player at an impact position simply walk wouldn't help Dallas win. Particularly when you take into account that the team would then have to find a replacement for him.

2) Spencer has been good since his first year here. If you are talking about high sack totals only then last year was his best. If you are talking about holding the edge, stopping the run, playing a ton of snaps, QB pressures and QB hurries, then he has been stellar since coming to Dallas. There is a lot that goes into playing besides just sacks. Now that he won't be asked to be back in coverage half the time, it will help even more.

I almost wish he had hit free agency so people could have seen what high demand Spencer would have created. Teams would have been lining up for him.

Spencer had his best season last year and was one of Dallas' top defensive players. You don't throw out your better players because of the team result. You build around them.

Now, there are questions about how Spencer will play at DE on this level, and I'd like to see it before Dallas gives him a long-term deal, which is why I'm for playing him under the franchise tag for this season.

I'm interested to see, if he can handle the end position in the NFL, what his sack total will be.

Dropping into coverage obviously limited his opportunities in the 3-4, but he also benefited from going unblocked at times since teams didn't always expect him to rush the passer in Ryan's scheme.

Haters only see sack totals. Don't take into account the other pasrt of the game.

I would like to have spencer back just not at the 10 mil tag or a huge contrat that's gonna pay him 10 mil a yr. He's a good player but not that good.

No doubt about it! Spencer will be a beast at that DE spot too, we would be fools not to sign him. Some folks don't get it though. Smh!!!!

It would be foolish not to sign a player approaching 30 years of age that has a said he has been guilty of "mailing it in". Add the one really good season that came from his desire to get the big payday and you have a one hit wonder. One season of playing up to his full potential. Yeah, that is the type of player that teams regret not overpaying for.

I wonder how everyone around here would react if we picked up one of the top five defensive ends available in free agency this year.

Please tell me your not saying spencer is a top 5 de.

It would be foolish to take that quote out of context, but people keep doing it.

Among available free agents? I'll let the links speak for themselves.

There is a big difference from what is available and the league. He's not a top 5 de in the league.

Not quite what he said.. but go ahead with the rhetoric.

He said one of the top five pass rushers available in free agency this year. Nothing about the league overall.
