Any chance Heath becomes the starter?

Church is in the final year of his contract and Heath just signed an extension. Heath is coming off of a year where he had two ints in one week on a horrible defense. He caused 2 fumbles in limited action. Actually in half the amount of seasons and maybe 5% the playing time of Church, Heath has the same number of ints (3) and three less fumbles caused over their careers.
I can't believe I am even saying this with the Adrian Peterson highlight still fresh in my head and a distant highlight of one Calvin Johnson catch???? I think it was Calvin but Heath was not only in position to make both of those plays he actually made the play at first but was over matched against 2 HOFs.
I remember the fumble recovery and return for a TD against the Giants a couple of years ago too. He has had his share of big plays in such limited time. The one thing that holds me back from thinking that Heath can outright beat out Church for playing time is the coaching staffs love for Church but I am telling you now that if Church gets injured that he might not get his job back.
In all honesty Heath is younger, faster, covers a lot better and is actually a better tackler. Yes that's right everyone, I believe he is a better tackler. Church has some really horrible complete wiffs. Anyway I wouldn't mind seeing a little more of a combination of youth and speed in the back end with Heath and Jones.

I actually think heath can be a serviceable starter in this league. I think moving church to LB may help the team with injuries this season and open the door for heath.

Always thought Heath was put in a bad position, and i think its pretty obvious he improved. Whethee or not i think hell be a starter is still in the air for me. I would love if he could prove himself, he plays hard and always gives effort.

#1 - I have always been a supporter of Heath, and

#2 - Man, I hope he never starts.

He is a good backup SS and an excellent Special Teams player. That is why he is on the roster and on a multi-year contract. But he shouldn't be starting, he is like Bernadeau was on offense - very good backup but a very marginal starter.

Where Chance = 1/ Infinity then answer approaches certainty. Does he have a realistic chance then not so sure........outside. Most likely he is a SP and STs player.

Heath is a lot better football player than you guy will admit. Calvin Johnson made a lot of good veteran DBs look foolish over the years but rookie Heath was supposed to come in and shut him down? Heath also took Adrian Peterson head on and would have stopped him but AD's team mates caught him before he hit the ground and pushed him into the end zone. Give this kid a break.

It's hard to erase two plays from my head. However, it must be noted that both came when Heath was a rookie. He also is pretty athletic when you look at the measurables. He led the team in INT's and ask Lockette if he can hit. I see him as an ascending player. Not sure that I see him starting this year but I wouldn't be surprised to see him starting at some point. Coaches seem to like him and it is possible for people to get better from their rookie years.

He could be. Not like he has hof talent in front of him.

I think he will definitely used in packages, like last year, but be playing next to Jones.

Church is obviously the favorite, but I could see Heath pushing him for PT

I was so damaged by this game that I have a deep-rooted bias against Jeff Heath playing S

I think he got something of an unfair shake when he was thrown to the wolves as a rookie. There's no question but what he was ill prepared to compete as a starter at that time. Even though he improved later on, many of us never forgave him for the limitations early in his career. I think it's possible that he could get some chances to vindicate himself this year. Whether he's able to do so (or not) remains to be seen. I'd be willing to keep an open mind on his performance until such time as he's had more opportunities to vindicate himself. Anyway, he's still exceptional on teams.
