Any chance Mara/Goodell do us a favor? re Brady

It wasn't a judge or a jury, it was a report submitted by a private entity to a private entity, to decide punishment within the framework of their own rules and regulations.

He should get nothing if the report was deciding it.

The most I can see is 2 game suspension for Brady and the team will be punished with a fine and loss of draft picks.

Kind of what I think as well. I think they will feel Brady has to serve some sort of suspension and will go with 2 ( should be minimum 8 IMO ) and a draft pick or two ( would shock me if they went above a 2nd rounder though ).

Patriots and Brady can't avoid all punishment at this point. Too much public pressure against a total slap on the wrist, but Goodell won't go as far as a lot of us would like I'm afraid.

The purpose in suspending players when they mess up is to avoid the leagues reputation from being tarnished.

I don't condone players getting arrested and doing stupid stuff like stealing underwear but at this point hearing about a player do something stupid off the field is kind of expected. Now hearing a player cheat on the field is a much bigger problem for the leagues image. I think the league has to hand down a stiff suspension to Brady for this. This conduct is much more detrimental to the league than some player getting in trouble for drinking and driving. That stuff is crap these guys do in their private lives that only comes up because of the medias rush to report bad stuff on players. What Brady did involves actual game integrity...to me that's huge.

I agree - if up to me Brady would get a year off as would Belicheck and the Patriots would lose next year's 1st round pick. That type of punishment would be a true deterrent IMO. If it wasn't the Patriots, Goodell might actually do something like this. But it is, so don't expect too much.

FWIW Bill Polian seems to think this warrants severe penalty. He wont come out and give a specific punishment but it's pretty clear from his comments that he feels Brady and Patriots should not get off lightly.

I would give them the same thing the Saints got.

I think that view is shared by many around the league.

Not to mention he sullied the league by boldface lying in press conferences and withholding evidence.

Brady has several problems here, main one being he is Tom Brady. If this were Alex Smith or Christian Ponder no one would care. If it were Bryan Hoyer it would be a punchline. But being Tom Brady and captain of this years champions means he is going to get extra scrutiny. Now he knows what it's like to be a Cowboy.

Another is, if I am reading between the lines correctly, there will be a big backlash from players if he is not given several games suspension. There can't be a rule for the Golden Boy and one for everyone else. I think the NFL is picking up on this and know what they have to do.

He did not help himself last night with the interview in front of Pat fans, he came off as uncaring and turning his nose up towards the NFL, while they loved it I'm sure others around the league did not care for it at all

The Miami Herald has a source that is claiming a season long suspension not because of deflating the balls, but al, of the cover up and lying after the fact.

Brady should be suspended, but I ain't holding my breathe that Goodell is going to do jack.

He will get a slap on the wrist of being fined a couple of game checks but can still play. The team probably loses a 4th round pick for lack of oversight, big deal to give up a mid round pick for a SB trophy
