As a child I was real interested in the Civil War, American Indians, and the American West. Then WWII, as almost everyone in my father's and grandfather's generation served somewhere. My father ended up as a career soldier, which allowed me to talk to a lot of WWII, Korean, and Vietnam conflict veterans as well. My grandfather survived both Dieppe and the 'Frozen Chosin'.

College era focus was on Inner Asian history, specifically the waves of nomad invasions off the steppes into Europe and the middle east. Huns, Turks, Mongols, etc.

Other directions as I find the time. Oh, and Chinese history. Became real interested in and did some extensive reading on the Boxer Rebellion in China.

Yes, I love History. In particular I am interested in the "Old West" gunfighter days. The gunfighters, the lawmen, the outlaws, the Cavalry (especially the 9th and 10th cavalry commonly known as the "Buffalo Soldiers), the various Indian tribes and their interaction with the eminent domain land grabs. All of it.

I also am very interested in 1900 through the end of WWII and the evolution of world militaries, especially the US military. I have a particular interest in Patton. I find him to be perhaps the most remarkable military figure of all time. I never tire of talking about him and wish we still had a General of his ilk. I am more interested in his pre WWII fame than I am his WWII fame. He fascinates me.

I wrote some documentaries about gunfighters and wanted to do some others on the Buffalo Soldiers and one on pre-WWII Patton. Alas, I have never been able to find someone interested in funding those projects. The research into their stories is fascinating.

Hostile have you watched the 10 Most wanted Outlaws (History Channel) of the old west pretty interesting lots of Texans on that list.

I have my undergraduate degree in History. My areas of interests lie in the world prior to and immediately after world war I. (Middle East, British Empire, Palestine, British Mandate, etc...)

As far as American History, I have a fondness for antebellum America and the Civil War as well.

What are your interests?

I'd personally like to see a movie made about 70 AD along the lines of Troy, 300, and the likes. People now a days have a short attention span but if they only knew some of their history....

I once thought about writing a book about 69 AD, the year of the four emperors.

If you like history with archeology theres a book about Custard and also a show on the history channel about what the book talks about. Interesting findings. They actually traced soldiers movement on the battle field by using forensic tracking of shells fired from the carbines and stuff like that.

One other cool note from me: Reading a book my dad had The Diary of An Airborne Ranger (A LRRP's Year in The Combat Zone)

The book has several black and white pictures in the middle There are several pictures of Sgt. Rick Butler in there; the interesting thing is that one of my Dads Sisters is married to his brother (I can the pictures but my scanner is broken)

I know many don't like it, but I love the Ken Burns series on the Civil War.

I have it both on Video and DVD. I wish it had a little more on the war out west (around the Mississippi). It focused mainly on the war in VA...which I don't have a problem with, but there were so many other areas to focus on.

I also feel Burns focused a little too much on slavery....Now, I agree that slavery was a big factor in instigating the war....I just don't think it was the sole issue. Many, many layers...

The series introduced me to Shelby Foote. Wow! Now there's some info! Anything you want to know about the Civil War can be found in his books.

I'm fortunate to be able to visit many historic sites ova heah, but I really enjoyed the following during my trip last year...

Graceland - modern history, fascinating place even though I didn't like Elvis.

Sun Studios, Memphis - pass me the microphone!

Chatanooga Battlegrounds near Rock City, Lookout Mountain.

Deally Plaza - who did it?

Alcatraz - my wife wishes she could have left me in solitary. ;)

One thing I have learned over the years....it doesn't have to be that old to be historic.

I am a huge Ancient world buff (especially the Republic of Rome) and I can't get enough of it.

WWII is also something thatgreatly interests me, as well American History throughout the 1800s.

I never majored in history (BA in media production) but I wish I had.

For those Rome fans out there, check out the latest biography of Caesar by Adrian Goldsworthy

CAESAR: LIFE OF A COLOSSUS.

If you go to Virgina you can visit the only place in the United States That has a picket line for the American Revolution and the Civil War

If you like any info from those period Yorktown is full of sites about both those wars (They had a good pub to drink at to but that was like 10 years ago:))

Any ways I road my bicycle along with an army buddy from Fort Eustis to Yorktown and we visited the museum old houses and several trails that are full of info.

I enjoy Egyptian/middle eastern history from about 1600 BC to 1300 BC (Fall of the middle kingdom, rise of the new kingdom) and prehistoric America (back as far as anyone can find anything - the period from about 30,000 BC to 12,000 BC era is increasingly promising though not much to be sure about yet).

I also have a fascination with archeoastronomy of any old time.
