Williams put up monster numbers for a rookie last year and we got him in the third round. If they are going to replace Austin I say take a look in the third round or later and see if any receivers high on our board have fallen. If Evans is there at sixteen and we don't like anyone there for our defensive front seven trade back a little.

It's an insanely deep WR class this year...way deeper than last year's class.
Unless your team does not have a legit WR1, then I see no reason whatsoever to burn a mid 1st rounder on WR this year.

You've got a point, but we could also try to find the Richard Sherman's in the fifth round instead of the B.W. Webbs in the fourth.

I'm down for that. Problem is figuring out which guy that is year, if there is one. Maybe Antone Exum from VT

agreed. lets have the great prognosticators tell us who the gems are in the 5th, 6th and 7th round. not telling us after the fact, with hindsight 20/20 glasses

I don't really follow college football at all other than watching the A&M games last season, so I can't even hazard a guess. The improvement in the draft has to come from Jerry Jones.

What I'm getting from this is that the secret is drafting cornerbacks in the 5th round instead of the 4th.

That's why we hire a competent staff to be able to determine who those gems are. That's their job not ours.

This team is not one draft away so take bpa. Keep hearing Dez back issues also.

You might have a point except for the fact that Evans ran a 4.5.

4.5 is not slow but it is not blazing. Great talent but not a need unless the Cowboys do not plan on re-signing Dez.

Draft the best defensive player available at 16; he is guaranteed to start unless he is a CB. Defense wins championships.

Very Deep WR Class

Just a reminder of some of the WRs available this year:
Sammy Watkins
Marguis Lee
Evans
Brandin Cooks
Odell Beckham
Kelvin Benjamin
Allen Robinson
Jordan Matthews
Devante Adams
Montavius Bryant
Donte Moncrief
Robert Herron
Bruce Ellington
Mike Davis
Ryan Grant
Brandon Coleman
Jared Abbrederis
Josh Huff
Kevin Norwood
Devin Street
TJ Jones
Cody Latimer

and a bunch more still

For a team in need of help at nearly every position on the defense, plus some select areas on offense...and so, so many WRs out there that can be had much later....
why would you ever burn your 1st rounder on Evans

The only receiver they should even think about taking is Sammy Watkins - and he won't make it out the top 10.

BPA is a good strategy if you don't have glaring holes on one of the worst defenses in league history.

Pryor, Donald, Clinton-Dix - one of those three will be there and they would immediately step in and be a day one starter.

Evans would be the 3rd or 4th receiving option on this team behind Dez, Witten, and Williams. Would be an absolutely terrible move.

If u can't do it why should the cowboy staff be able to?

It is not like they are professionals and it is their job or anything crazy like that

Evans is one of the few skills players on offense that I would be OK with drafting in round 1

It really depends on the board. If Evans is a top ten talent on our board and there's no defensive players left in that range then I think you make a mistake passing him up. if someone is willing to make an even offer I'm not sure you take it, if you think Evans has a chance to be something special. If someone blows you away you take it and run.

In the long run your team won't go wrong by drafting the best talent it can in each round and letting the coaching staff figure out how to utilize it correctly. And its also very good to remember that the draft isn't an immediate panacea. A lot of players, even 1st rounders, take a year or two to get it figured out.

Saw a group of mocks that had him going at 9 to Beefalo and 12 to the Giants.

http://www.nfl.com/draft/2014/mock-drafts

Yet there was one where he went to the Ravens after Dallas.

So what if...

Donald is gone.

Zach martin is gone.

Ha Ha Clinton-Dix is gone.

And Mike slips.

Can you imagine the offense with Evans and Dez, and TWill coming out of the slot?

I know, this team needs defense. And there could be plenty of time to fill that need. Especially if Ware hauls butt and they save a ton of money. FA could fill a need and maybe even retain Hatcher.

I really like offense, but that is beside the point.

So, any interest? Or is this a trade down scenario, which pouts my feet to sleep because of the notion you get two god players instead of one.

Here yall go with this foolishness,we need first 3 pics defense. Ill accept maybe ol in 3rd not a wr,

I'm a believer in sticking to your board and taking the best player available.

By "Ya'll" do you mean management? Because they don't care what we think or know for that matter. And I think this thread is just questioning that scenario. Management is gonna do what they want and justify it, no matter what. I think everyone agrees that we needs defense first, but will management follow the board strictly, or go defense no matter what?
Or is there a talent so transcendent that if he falls you have to take him? I don't believe there will be... but I've seen crazier things happen.

Side note, IMO Kelvin Benjamin is as good as Evans... but I'm biased.:D
