They're obviously relying on Dr. Cooper's word, who wins awards and is a world renowned expert in complex knee ligament issues, retained by Dallas and consults Real Madrid, the two most valuable sports franchises in the world.

Kinda like arguing with Neil deGrasse Tyson about theoretical astrophysics. You may end up being right, but it's not from actually knowing what the hell you were talking about.
I dont recall reading that he said anything definitive about it ever firing.

If it hasn't fired by November, time to start worrying. Until then, it is a process(in Garrett's voice).....:D

I know he had the knee/nerve injury and it was supposed to take time to heal. Has there been any info from the team on his progress?

Has there been any info from the team on his progress???? This is the same "team" that stated Romo was fine after the Seattle game, I wouldn't believe a word that comes out of this "team" with regards to any players injury or progress...

This, of course is the guy who reviewed and approved the prescription that got Lawrence suspended for PEDs.

Of course, knee ligament issues have virtually nothing to do with neurology, so it's less like arguing with Neil deGrasse Tyson about theoretical astrophysics and more like arguing with Neil deGrasse Tyson about, oh I don't know, neurology.

I think it was fuzzy who it did it.

Did what? The 40% figure includes all paralysis or type 2-4 nerve injuries. Type 4, complete severing, has a ~0% success rate. Jaylon has a type 2. I don't know what the success rate on those are. He is likely undergoing axonal regeneration right now and even doctors don't fully understand the biomechanics of what that entails.

I will say that if the success rate for type 4s is 0 then the success rate between 2's and 3's together would be 60%.

Given that, if the success rate for 2's is twice as much as it is for 3's then the success rate for 2's would be 80%.

Algebra is tough.

I have a fair amount of confidence in the first number --if you completely sever the nerve there is no path for regeneration-- and very little in the second. This is just to give a sense of how the distribution would work out.

Its pretty obvious he is not going to be playing this year, especially if Romo is going to be the IR return man this year.

Pretty much everybody knew this was going to be a redshirt season for Jaylon.

Ok so can someone explain to me what is supposed to be "firing"

Right now Smith is unable to dorsiflex his left foot (raise your foot towards your knee). In training/rehab, he wears a brace which keeps his foot elevated when he would otherwise experience a "foot-drop". Apparently peroneal nerve damage also affects your ability to rotate your foot left or right and he has some sensation loss (tingling feeling). He needs the nerve regeneration to regain those movements. I expect we will see him next year.

Seems more and more they should have used that pick on a defensive player, any defensive player. We need defense, now with Romo out for a while, the D becomes more important.
As much as I am pulling for Smith to recover, i am also thinking there were many defensive players there to select, even if it meant reaching a bit for one of them.

Take the heat for a reach, or take the hit for yet another injured played being drafted. Give me the player that helps now. If you have faith in your scouting department, that reach may turn out as well as Smith in the long run. I say that because at least that player is on the field. Do you really want to wait another year to wait to see, and hope.
That is like hoping Romo will return, and never get injured again.

IR to return doesn't affect Jaylon's situation. Romo won't be using it either.
