I'm going to pull for Spencer, but, if there was one player that I cannot stand, it's Spencer! And this is coming from a so called "homer".

That's all you can ask, I guess. But what is it about Spencer you can't stand? Is it his high salary expectations? His moment-of-introspection a few years back where he admitting that, in retrospect, he could have played harder? It seems like a lot of our die-hard fans don't like the guy while the team and his various DCs all seemed to really like him.

I'm actually not really sure why I dislike the guy. I'm actually also embarrassed to admit that I don't like the guy. And, I don't expect much from him this season. But, if or when he does hit the field, I will be pulling for him, until...

Fair enough. I always have pulled for the guy, mostly because he's been so close to being really good and because he's historically been underrated by so many of our fans. I guess you can't earn the nickname "Almost Anthony" and then come out and publicly say you should have tried harder and still win the hearts and minds of the fans.

I don't expect much from him this season, either. If I thought he'd be back more-or-less fully healthy, I would, though. I just think that's pretty unlikely given the age, injury, and with him missing TC.

You are lacking in ability in evaluating strong side 3-4 outside linebackers if you do not think he was very good in 2011. 6 sacks and dominant run defense entails a great season at that spot.

Sorry but you are full of crap. 6 sacks is the old standard before the NFL went pass crazy. Now that is average at best for what you need if you want a really good D.

I think this might part of my dislike for the guy. I would rather have a mediocre healthy player without a serious injury using a roster spot rather than waiting and hoping that Spencer will at least play one game before he gets hurt.

Maybe the money thing bothers me also. 10.5 mil for doing nothing last season, and now will get the vet min for a year (i think that is his salary) for possibly not doing anything, again. However, like I preach to other posters, it's not my coin, but I think the FO could have or should have used their money on someone else.

I know that this wasn't directed to me but I just didn't like this, neither did I like the fact that he was missing treatments during the Cowboy's last season of Hard Knocks. Guys like that shouldn't be rewarded with a new contract especially if they have their best year in a contract year.

Meanwhile at Cowboys practice....

Bryan Broaddus: The coaches have to be pleased in what they have seen from Anthony Hitchens but on the flip side, DeVonte Holloman has yet to show that type of player we all thought he was. Rolando McClain has worked his way back on the practice field and was able to make some nice sideline-to-sideline plays. The coaches are starting to use Bruce Carter in some rush situations with his hand on the ground in the one-on-one. This was something I had heard that the coaches were interested in the off season in trying to do. Justin Durant continues to hold the job at Mike but overall this group in my opinion is still unsettled.

He is on the sidelne stealing more money.

Well it is about time that he gets out there to earn his pay check or I am going to start calling him Anthony "Johnson". Oh sorry we already have a Johnson in lifetime rehab.

Yeah, the rehab thing left a bad taste in my mouth, too, at the time. I'd actually forgotten about it until you mentioned it. The introspection thing didn't bother me because it's the sort of thing I might say myself, though hopefully not with a mic in my face. Lots of times, looking back, you realize what you thought was the right way to go about things was an excuse or just not the right level of effort.

The guys on either Talking Cowboys or the Start Magazine show--can't remember which--say that Jerry just loves the guy. I have no idea how much that's true, but it does seem like we've tried pretty hard to keep him at a cap-competitive price. I'm not sure that does him any favors among the common fans, though.
