Any news on Spencer?

Jeff Sullivan with a great article. Quotes from Britt Brown on Spencer:

Neither Spencer nor Brown, or anyone associated with the Cowboys for that matter, wants Spencer to start the season on the Physically Unable to Perform list, which would mean sitting out the first six games. However, the clock is certainly tick, tock, tick, tock, with the opener 27 days away and Spencer still at least a week, seemingly longer, from putting on pads.

“There’s no set timetable. Every one of these surgeries and subsequent rehabs are different. How Anthony progresses is dictated by how he tolerates the work every day,” Brown said. “We are hopeful that when the time comes, before the opener, that we’re far enough in the process to have a legitimate discussion of whether or not he starts the season on PUP. We have to get him some reps and see if he’s comfortable.”

Reading between the lines, that sounds like Spencer, barring a setback, could be ready two or three games into the season, and the team just needs to determine what makes sense, roster-wise. Now, when Spencer does return, it’s not going to be 100 percent, at least not at first. Brown estimates that by around Thanksgiving Spencer should be near that level.

Some of my numbers were wrong. He was only down 4 months for example.

Just last week he began change-of-direction drills with Britt Brown, the Cowboys’ associate athletic trainer/director of rehabilitation.

Is there even a decision to be made?

Anthony Spencer isn't going to be in game shape for the opener.

What good is tying up a roster spot on a player who won't be ready to play in September?

Leave Spencer on PUP and let him rehab.

He can come off PUP any time from October 13th to November 3rd.

When cleared to return to practice, the team has another 3 weeks from that date to add Spencer to the roster or move him to IR for the season.

Any news on this guy? It's ridiculous how long he's been injured. The cat missed all of last year and looks like he'll miss this one.

Jerra likes to coddle his injured players and it always backfires on him, correct?
I dunno, sometimes you want to hug him for his loyalty and grace and sometimes you just want to (figuratively) throttle him for being so naive.

Spencer? He's an afterthought. A has-been. A malingerer and a distraction.
I half had it with him.

Well it is about time that he gets out there to earn his pay check or I am going to start calling him Anthony "Johnson". Oh sorry we already have a Johnson in lifetime rehab.

We paid this guy so much money last year for nothing. He should play this season free. But what did he do ? He tried to shop himself and get more money. If he could have gotten a million or 500k more he would have went to that team. Paid this guy top money to sit on the bench and they guy still try to line his pocket.

Sorry but you are full of crap. 6 sacks is the old standard before the NFL went pass crazy. Now that is average at best for what you need if you want a really good D.

Six sacks is a good season for ANY Sam LB in a 3-4. He spends better than 50% of his snaps in coverage.

The way I see it, he needs to practice the week before the last preseason game if he wants to play in the opener. that is is in two weeks.

I am guessing that the club wants to wait until the season starts cause I am pretty sure it allows him to practice for a number of weeks before he has to be put back on the roster.

Steve Dennis says he talked to Spencer and Spencer thinks he is ready but the trainers won't clear him.
