I could just imagine having Hutch and Bently on the line, flanked by rivera and adams. that would have been a coop. costly but man could you freaking imagine. we would have had to manipulate the cap some what, but it would have given us a team that could contend for years.
$86M on a guard and a center?

You wouldn't have a team that could contend for years because you would have guys like Roy, Brady and Witten walking away when their contract was up.

Isn't that the truth......guess he was just to expensive for us
He was. The Vikings were mad at the Seahawks about how they grabbed a Vikes player (can't think of his name right now). So, they ratcheted up the game by offering Hutch an incredible offer structured in such a way that no team could match it. I'm not enough of a cap expert to understand how it worked, but apparently the NFL stepped in afterwards & has issued some sort of ruling preventing teams from doing it in the future.

Anyway, bottom line is that the Hawks REALLLLYYYY wanted Hutch & no one else was going to get him.

The Vikings actually started it and Seattle retaliated by signing Nate Burleson in a similar manner.

Close, but a little reversed.

The Vikings wanted Hutch. They put the poison pill clause in his contract that said certain things - that he must be the highest paid OL on his team, or his entire contract becomes guaranteed (Impossible for Seattle, with Walter Jones).

Seattle retaliated by signing Nate Burleson and putting a similar clause in his contract. They stated that if he played more than two games a year in the state of Minnesota, his entire contract would be guaranteed.

It got nasty.

here are a few players i wished we wouldve had.

1st and foremost- Jake DelHomme, we were so close to signing him it isnt funny, then he tears off and gets Carolina to the Superbowl.

2ndly - i wish we still Joey Galloway, the fact was Tampa was going to release Keyshawn no matter what, we didnt have to trade Joey for him.

3rdly - i agree with alot of other people we shouldve took Adam Vinateri over Vanderjagt for the main reason we wouldnt need 2 kickers.

those come to mind.

Insanity! Galloway #2 (Joey) is now gone and I'm happy for it. Now, lets get rid of Galloway #1 (Randy)

I would think Iggle fans would be wringing their hands that they lost Kearse as a result of a total collapse.

Had they not had a total meltdown in the 4th qtr, Kearse would still be playing.

What a shame for him as well.

Who cares? Injuries happen, that's idiotic to go back and try to blame it on the fact that they "collapsed" and the game went to OT. Coulda shoulda woulda

I just got back on, home.

Already been in this thread. There's a great spot where PT fully digests his shoe. It's classic. if you haven't read the whole thing, do so, now - and then bow to Dwight Smith. For he is merciful.

Yeah, that was way fun! The three of us need to find a RedStink fan now and turn him in circles! (as if they arn't already)...

It was fun until PT made fun of my spelling...typical...

I made a list of people who have fascinated me over the years and it ended up being a couple of columns of names. But if you eliminate all those Dallas never could have drafted, then it becomes much smaller.

I saw a RB named Wilbert Montgomery play in the NAIA championship his freshman year and I followed him through his college and pro career. Some guy named Vermiel drafted him. I also followed RB Wendell Tyler. I liked his style and he ended up a big part of a few SF teams.

Keith Brooking is the next guy I think would have been an excellent draft choce, but I think we chose a DL that year. I liked Patrick Kerney and perhaps he would have been better than Ekuban.

The year we drafted Q, I was hoping that Casey Hampton would drop to 37. Kris Jenkins also caught my eye. DT Kevin Williams is another I'd have liked to have.

Guys who got away that I regretted:

TE Jean Fugett
LB Randal Godfrey
RB Herschel Walker (would have been nice if we could have kept him).

David.

The Wilbert Montgomery... from Abilene Christian University, my alma mater :D

Way before my time, but I heard about him a lot while I was in school there.

The game was ACU versus Elon. Elon had some big defensive linemen but Abilene won anyway. I got to see it because I had a cousin who was married to a ACU prof at the time, and the game was played in Shreveport.

Another massively impressive specimen was Art Still. But I don't think Dallas had a chance at him. The two best receivers I saw in college in the 1970s were Wes Chandler and Ozzie Newsome..I don't think Dallas had a shot at either of those two.

David.
