Reading Terminal Market is very cool, lots of good eating there, right downtown by the Convention center, then keep walking down Market to Old City, pretty good bars. A good cheesesteak not far from your hotel is "Talk of the Town"

Tony Luke's is pretty good too if you go for the chicken cutlets or pork with broccoli rabe. I lived in Philly for a while back in my younger days and beyond some good neighborhood bars and maybe the historical sights in center city, I can't really remember what the city has to offer.

The Crabs, Muscles and Clams are pretty good at Chickie's and Pete's as well - not a bad place to watch Saturday Games. The area surrounding Independence Hall is well preserved and interesting - as is society hill to the south of it (riverfront too). Do not sport any Cowboys gear, it just isn't worth it, those fans have relatively little to live for.

Oh i know, its just really annoying to be placed in the same category when I am a student of history, not just our own, but history as a whole. But hey, im Canadian, what do i know right?

what are you most interested in doing while in Philly.

People are letting their sports bitterness get in the way.

Philly is actually a pretty decent town. Very good in terms of selection of restaurants, quality of restaurants, etc. The historical area is very nice as is the area around Boathouse Row and the Art Museum which is one of the best in the country. Like most major cities they have their crap holes but I doubt many tourists are heading to the crap neighborhoods in NYC or Chicago or Washington DC either.

Where are you staying?

Aside from the eagles - I love being in philadelphia. The only other place in USA id rather live is maybe California.

I agree about Reading Terminal: stop in Termini's bakery there and get some of the best homemade cannolis you'll ever eat!

Best macaroni and cheese at Max Brenner restaurant located at 1500 Walnut street (yeah, that was random, wasn't it?!)

If you feel like walking around, check out Rittenhouse Square...

Having been to Philthy on business, and ignoring the fact that it is home of the Eagles, it really is a crappy place to visit. Not sure where the whole "brotherly love" lie came to be because people are generally rude there. I was there in the winter and maybe the warmer months it's better, but it is cold and dirty everywhere.

I agree - Reading Terminal is a cool spot to visit and for just walking around and enjoying the city Rittenhouse Square is pretty awesome.

It's closed on Sunday I believe but I love going there. Reading terminal market.

Not sure how long you're staying, but I'm always for a run up the Rocky steps and a pic with Stallone. lol

My memory is fuzzy, because it's been awhile since I've gone, but I believe there's a street called Second street, similar to 6th street in Austin where it's full of bars/restaurants, etc.

I'd say you are largely biased. Dirty everywhere? LOL.

They opened a new entertainment center apparently right between the Eagles and Phillies stadium. Restaurants and bars. There is also a popular bar open year round in the Phillies stadium, I believe.

University city which is the neighborhood near university of Penn is a spot with a lot of bars and generally packed with college kids and generally younger crowd, probably a good spot to pick up chicks.

Main street manayunk also can be a pickup spot - and the bars are pretty cool there, i think the bars on mainstreet are all very different and some have a really unique flare to them. So better bars on main street than University City, i think, But with a mixed age crowd - will still be younger folks there to meet. But probably more college age and young people partying in university city.

Old city has some really cool bars that show off the history of the city - but less of a pickup spot for younger people. But also closer to where you are staying.

So, as a suggestion....

i would grab some lunch at reading terminal, spend the afternoon either hanging around rittenhouse square and/or the art museum (not far from each other) or see the historic sites in old city (you wont have time for both).

At night, trek over to either university city or Main street manayunk and hang for a while, then as the night gets later you can head back east toward Old city and then finish the evening in some bars there since its closer to your hotel.

Personally I prefer manayunk to university city .

I live about 45-60 minutes from the stadium. I have been to Cowboys v Eagles games at the new stadium. I didn't wear any Cowboys gear when I went. It was interesting because I was looking around the stadium and could spot other cowboys fans by their reaction to the plays on the field. None of them were standing and cheering when the cowboys did something good. They seem to know better. However when the eagles scored I could just tell by the lack of cheering and standing who was a cowboys fan in hiding.

People in philly like to say the media paints them in a negative light.....Well just know that the last game I went to at the Linc I was parked about 50 yards away from a car that was set on fire because it was cowboys fans who drove the car. I remember sitting in my seats at the beginning of the game and I could see smoke rising up over a low part of the stadium. I didn't know until later that it was a carBQ of a cowboys fan.

Now this was a fairly meaningless game that we won and it wasn't an 8pm game. So the late games are known to be worse.....

Go watch your team....Just be careful.
