overall impressions at length.

QB:
McNabb is a top 10 QB. His ability to break tackles is huge. His accuracy is still suspect but he gets away with it because he keeps so many drives alive with his feet.

RB:
The Eags are in trouble. The guys they played sucked bad. They couldnt even carry a small load. Levens better be able to back up Westbrook.

WR: TO is gonna make alot of big plays. The other guys still stink. The TE is solid and will make key plays.

OL: Should be strong, but they deserve a better running game.

DL: Will pressure the passer but dont stop the run well at all.

LB: Poor group. Suspect tacklers. Will miss Emmons.

DB: CBs are very suspect especially in the nickel.

Drawing up a gameplan versus Philly I'd run the ball alot in regular sets and use 3 WRs on 3rd down almost exclusively. Keyshawn should own the battle in the slot. If they double Keyshawn in the slot you go outside up top to AB.

Defensively you spy McNabb with Dat who will have less to worry about in the running game than usual. Double TO and force twigs to beat you in single coverage against a physical Hunter.

If Twiggy Pinkston EVER catches the ball in front of Roy Williams then lord help him. It might be the worst tv scene since Theisman got his due from LT.

I think its less that they are suspect....and more that they don't have a lot of depth there. You throw out 4 wr's..... that's a matchup problem for Philly, if you can stop their pass rush.

another thing I think I think, their pash rush might still rely on blitz too much, Kearse being a big variable there. He's gotta stay healthy, or their pass rush will not help those corners.

Is it just me or does McNabb with his hairdo look like Carrot-top?:D And what was up with those impressions by McNabb and TO? Were they mocking Jeff Garthia or something?

In the past it was the corners who helped the pass rush. How many Philly Defensive Linemen and or LB's moved on to other teams and became big contributors ? I can't think of any...but maybe I am missing somebody.

Now you can beat the pass rush with a big possession receiver like Keyshawn.

The only Defensive Players I would covet from their team currently is that stud DT (forgot his name) who is playing out his remaining contract under protest and Sean Dawkins. I would take Kearse if I had a gaurantee that he would stay healthy. But IMO the odds are he will miss significant playing time this year.

I'm still fairly impressed with the Eagles. I thought McNabb threw some pretty good passes in this game. T.O will open up the field and let the underneath ball get thrown. The offense was able to move the ball fairly consistently and McNabb was able to picjk it up when they didn't. Westbrook was able to get outside on a couple of plays but I didn't see much between the tackles (Did I miss somethng here?) They will score points this year.

The defense didn't show as dominating but still looked OK in a number of areas. I doubt they had much of a scheme going for this game. Run defense looked OK. They got a couple of sacks in the first half. Pass defense did show some question marks. Overall, they remain clearly the team to beat. :(

I like with Carolina did to them in the Championship game last year. They came out right out of the shoot in the full house formation with three running backs and two tight ends. That middle linebacker (Simoneu?) was just getting hammered, he just can't stand up to the punishment of having the ball jammed down his throat on every down.

The Eagles did absolutely nothing during the off-season to shore up their run defense. Their corners are definitely suspect, despite the chirping of Eagles fans they are not near the caliber of Taylor and Vincent.

Worst of all for them, if they do get a lead in a game they have no running back to grind down the clock. Westbrook just isn't the guy for that sort of thing. If they try to do it with Reno Mahee they will be laughed off the field.

My impression of last night's game (and of many other NFL games these days):

There are too many guys running around with hair hanging out of their helmets.

Get a haircut, you hippies!!

SERIOUS QUESTION ---> Can a defender yank that hippy hair and thus tackle an offensive player by grabbing hair? Or is it considered a facemask?

Seriously, is there a rule?

I believe it was talked about last year a lot and you CAN grab the hair if it is hanging out of the helmet!

If a player has hair hanging out of the helmet it's considered part of the uniform and they can be tackled by it. That's why RW and Edge James cut their dreads down last year.

Some observations from last night...

1. "McNabb to T.O." could turn out to be a problem for defenses, but I'd be more worried about "Culpepper to Moss" until they prove otherwise in the regular season.

2. Philly's run defense looked suspect.

3. Duce Staley looks fantastic and the Steeler's O. Line basically pushed Philly defenders all over the field at times.

4. The Eagle's new CB situation isn't a rosy as the media has made it out to be, but they weren't really tested too much last night due to the fact that the Steelers really didn't need to pass in order to move the ball.

5. The Steelers still are having a hard time stopping the pass.

6. Mahe and McCoo could make Levens an unnecessary pickup.

7. Blake looked pretty good last night and made some nice throws.

It's still pre-season, but I think the Eagles defense is still a work in progress with Kearse in there, no Kalu, and the new CB starters. But I'm sure Jim Johnson has tricks up his sleeve when the games really count. We'll see if Coughlin pounds Barber and Dayne at them in Week 1 to see if they are really as vunerable to the run as the Steelers made them look last night.

The defense is terrible and Wayne going off a cart made it even worse. They are the Cheifs. Of course look at the record the cheifs put up. If they make make the playoffs there will be even more dissapointment. They keep saying every year as they lose vets that they are upgrading but in the end it keeps getting worse. 2002 was their best chance and they could not stop the run even then.

But we haven't done so well against Philly the last few years. They have advanced to the NFC Championship game the last three years. That makes them heavy favorites to at least make the playoffs.

It would be a mistake to underestimate them.

That said I believe you can only stay on top so long and I do believe they are vunerable this year. I still have them as favorites though to win the East.

You hit it right there...if the Iggles indeed have a week spot it will be exposed the first game of the season with Tiki and Dayne...and wow, Dayne is running dang good so far. Tiki and Dayne will give the Giants a nice one two punch.

If they can beat the Eagles then they can beat us. Double edged sword. But go Giants anyway game one.

At least it will give us time to game plan. I'd love for the Giants to upset them.

Who does Washington play game one?

Yeah they stop every offense they play. That's why they have been in the Super Bowl the last 3 years. :p

Someone above mentioned Nate Wayne. Does anyone know what happened to him after heading for the locker room on a cart in the 1st quarter? I eagerly awaited an injury report sometime during the game, but to my knowledge, there wasn't one, which was unusual.

Yes, Jim Johnson is the best DC in the NFL and Reed is a good Off coach as well...
However, they can now be beat on D...
Kearse will play, but his best days are behind him...How long will he last?
The CB's and vets they have lost over the last few years will hurt!

They will give up more points then in the past.
However,

The O is better, say what you want about TO but IMHO he is much better then Moss because he will block and play each & every play...He is also tough, Moss is a major wuss...

The Oline is good enough to spring Westbrook, but now teams have a chance at beating them in a shootout...

McChunky soup still looks like he weighs too much...Looks closer to 250 LBS then 220...He will break tackles, but I bet he ends up hurt by midseason, because he has to do so much to make the offense work...and he will get hit this year!

Yes, filthy is the team to beat in our division, but now we have the weapons to actually overtake them...

They are going to have a rough time running the ball, McNabb is their best RB, and stopping the run.

TO is over-acting on his "NEW" attitude, but his body language last night the two time McNabb did not find him and the 3 times the pass was horrible you could see he was pissed. He will implode and have a meltdown by week 8.

Their CBs may be the worst in the league, if they don't get 50+ sacks they will get lit up all year.

They seem to cart off a player every game, even the players that will be back have injuries that tend to be the nagging type, ankle, knee, and back.

I think they may be in trouble, not 5-11 trouble, but they are not a Super Bowl lock, and will struggle to win the East and get past that first playoff game.
