Anybody else feeling more depressed about this team the last few days/weeks?

It sucks seeing him go to an ultra talented team in the niners BUT the ravens made the wise decision letting him go, it's a tough decision we never see our beloved owner make....which is why we are in a mess now scraping for pennies to get under the cap on the eve of free agency. The guy was handing out contracts like hot cakes the last few years and getting nothing from his middle round picks for years. This is a recipe for disaster and we're seeing right it now.

How do some of you see the light at end of the tunnel when we have our beloved Cowboys who have a maxed out cap (only b/c Jerry had to beg nearly every player to restructure...how embarrassing), holes in several position groups and only 6 draft picks...and then look at the niners with a talented, deep roster, good cap space, and 15 freaking picks??? How do you find hope in that?:confused::confused:

"You can either make yourself happy, or make yourself miserable. The amount of work is the same."

How can I see the light at the end of the tunnel? Maybe it comes from knowing what real tragedy is, and realizing that even though I love my Cowboys, and want badly to see them be champions again, it just isn't worth the grief some seem determined to suffer. Maybe it comes from having watched the game for almost 40 years, and seeing things year after year that defy conventional thinking. The Giants had no business winning the SB last year, but they did. Like I said, most teams (including a lot of good ones) have cap issues, and they all have at least one bad contract on the books.

You want Jerry to trade for a WR that a SB team was willing to give up for a 6th rounder? The Ravens aren't idiots. They've proven they know what they're doing. Oh BTW, they've given out a lot of big contracts, too, which is why they have cap problems right now.

Yes, the Niners have it going right now, and their future is bright. You know what? Three years ago, it wasn't. But they've done a great job of building from within. They didn't need to go out and make a bunch of big deals to become a great team. And three years from now, it might not be that way. Things change on a dime in this league. Teams that look great underperform, and teams that look bleak have great seasons. Many of those young players are gonna want to get paid. They won't keep them all. So they have 15 picks and a so-called "great cap situation." What does that guarantee them? Nothing!! And stop acting like the sky is falling. We have holes. We have questions, but we also have more going for us than many other teams.

I'm not trying to be a happy fan. And yes, I've gone on record saying that I question whether this team will ever be great again as long as Jerry is in charge. I just don't see the point in being doom and gloom all the time. That's not realism. It's just pessimism.

It'll probably get worse when Jerry signs Spenser to a hefty long term deal then we find out he's a below average DE in the new scheme.
:laugh2:

Knowing our luck, that is exactly what is going to happen.

yeah we do.

:lmao2:

Dont sweat it - we will sign Romo and go 8-8 next year...Thats what average teams with salary cap problems do...signing spencer and romo both ensure cap hell for years because of all the restructuring we did to get under cap..we already 24million in dead money next year!!!

Feeling really down about the future of this franchise for some reason. Seeing all of these NFC teams making moves while we're still struggling to get under the cap by restructuring nearly every big contract and therefore pushing guaranteed money into future years is depressing.

Also some rumors Ed Reed might sign with the Niners. Why are we being left in the dust by our once mortal enemy?

dont you have some pills to take.....or perhaps a barrel to bite on?

It aint no joke thinking the Dallas Cowboys have some of the worst fans in football. I think theres more of a problem in the fan base then the team.

Good point. I made this thread not to pout but hope some of you'd bring some light into the equation. :)

I think the fact that the NFC seems to be on the rise concerns me and makes me wonder if our best chance was 2006-2010.

I think the window has closed on this core group of players. Their salary prevents adding new pieces to help get over the hump, and their play is declining. That is a losing combination. Considering that a Super Bowl is not in the cards, it is time to blow it up and rebuild around the young players on the roster. The team is in a bad place right now with these huge contracts and declining talent. I can understand your uneasy feelings now, but it is going to get worse.

It's like spoiled children. It makes sense to be like that for a team like the Yankees or the Lakers because they can just outspend whoever they like. In a parity league, 8-8 is not the end of the world because the difference between one end of the spectrum and the other is not that great.

We're not frontrunners and anything other than that is not good enough for Cowboys fans. I just quit posting in that pessimism thread and I feel fine.

You don't watch the games? How many loses are the fans responsible for every year? You have joined a growing number of fans that blame other fans for the Cowboys' failures. The bad contracts, bad drafting and all the other problems with this team have nothing to do with the fans. The fans only contribution to this team is their hard earned money. That is it. Try placing the blame where it belongs.

I read most of this thread.

The OP is airing his feelings about the off season. He has a legitimate cause for concern because it seems only the Cowboys are static while other teams are trying to improve.

You can bet your butt that if Dallas had a great deal of free money to spend, the board would be humming with excitement over that fact. The hue and cry would be about this being our time and how free agency could be just the ticket for getting over the hurdle.

But because Dallas is in a crunch cap wise, the .500 Happy Hour set dismisses the machinations of other teams as meaningless.

Then the assault takes place on the OP.

Some come here to talk football.

Others come here to talk about other fans.

I guess I just did the same. But I am continually appalled at the idea there is a group who hijacks threads to lambast other fans for their feeling of emptiness over the path this team is headed down.

Scorched earth seems to be the tactic here.

And perhaps for the first time in my years as a fan of this team, I am ashamed to be associated with the fan base that is more content to eat their own than to discuss football.

A fan base that thinks 8-8 is entertaining and the drama of the season was enough.

A fan base that doesn't die just a little with every loss. That doesn't avoid all sports channels after those losses because it is painful to watch the team I have loved since I was a kid lose.

And a fan base that accepts mediocrity with no more thought about the history of the team, both near history of vanilla results, or the far history of superior performances and an excellence that created the brand as one of the best.

A fan base that ignores all the things that made this a once proud franchise, because it is better just to hope for the best than to actually find the opposite results to be vile.

Hope, which is perchance to dream a dream of greatness, year after year, since that is all that is being served up.

Dreaming is better than being justifiably indignant. Dreaming that causes people to lash out at any discussion that is not part of that dream. A dream that is built on hope, but not actually fact.

The .500 Happy Hour set has beaten me down. Not because I can't take it, but because they include themselves in the once proud fandome as they go about changing championships, and play-off runs into 8-8 and decreeing this is acceptable.

From here on out if you herald middle of the road as acceptable, then I will consider you a casual fan.

And to me a casual fan is someone who isn't even a band wagon fan. Not even on the level as a band wagon fan.

Because they at least come for the championships. But this brand of fan is pleased to just call themselves true fans.

And that is the biggest injustice of all. Far bigger than an egomaniac that has sullied the history of this team to promote himself as the architect.

It's a fan who calls himself a true fan, but exhibits the nature of being out of touch with the franchise he supposedly follows. The same kind of out of touch some complain about journalists who don't know the name of the 4th string free safety in an article they write.

It's a fan who doesn't have the gumption to truly commit to this team with every emotion and waking thought.

And with that, you might as well watch soccer.

There is nothing worse than the guy who tells another person the "proper" way to be a fan. Get over yourself.

Pot meet kettle

I can understand the "depression" thing somewhat-the old saying that "if you ain't improving, you are getting worse" can become reality if you let it.

One could argue we have not improved so far, but the draft will allow us to improve. We can not help but improve in most areas.

Our biggest problem as a team is going to be a tough division and and tougher conference.

Also, IF we can stay fairly healthy, we can have a good season, as good as the Gmen and 'Skins.

Great post 2Deep

You have described these 'fans' to a tee

"Nothing invested nothing lost"

That post from a well known poster about "enjoying the drama" of 2 .500 seasons is the saddest post I have read in all my years on the board

There was another post in the same thread about "lowering your expectations"

Sad but true that this is where the great meddler and the great tie-breaker has brought us as fans
