Anyone else concerned we are about to cut Lewis Neal?

Guy has done nothing but make plays, he'd be an awesome back-up to Collins at 3-tech. There is no way he clears waivers. I'm concerned we are only keeping 8 DL. He is better than some other guys we are likely keeping.

Not sure if teams will be lining up to claim a severely undersized DT. I think he has a good chance of clearing waivers and onto our PS. I think in Lewis' case, it's fans of the team overrating a player a bit. Every team has a player like Neal imo.

Given his size limitations, I think there's a chance he clears waivers.

That said, I'm not happy risking it to keep Kellen Moore around if that's the case.

I'll believe it when I see it. I think there is a decent chance he would clear waivers and make it to the practice squad. We've had players make plays in preseason before and not get picked up. In fact, it happens every year. People overvalue our players all the time. He didn't get drafted so every single team in the NFL thought he had flaws and passed. Now, because he made a few plays against 3rd teamers, they are going to put him on the 53 even though he doesn't know their scheme and is only a rookie? Every team has players they probably like more that him simply because they have been with the team and know their system. I will admit it would be a huge risk and he could get picked up but I just don't think it's a certainty.

I would like to keep him as well, but It's tough competition for the final few spots. Especially when you factor in possible players cut from other teams that may be of interest at LB, DE, DB, and OL.

I agree, I love Neal but DL who are 6' generally will slide through waivers. I think he has earned a spot on the 53 but he is also the perfect guy to stash on the PS and let him add 20 pounds in the weight room.

That sucks. Hopefully Jerry will do what he did with Rico and pay Neal like a rostered player if he makes it on to the PS. I'd like to see what he looks like with a year under his belt at DT.

With him cut I imagine 3 qb's for sure at the moment.

Also I thought they would cut Keith Smith to let Rod Smith take the FB reps, but right now it looks like I'm wrong on that.

They already cut him. Cutting him early improves their chance of sneaking him on PS. Gotta wait 24 hours.
