I would cut Tapper before Neal, this is a bad move just to keep noodle arm on the team.

I agree. Neal loses out because he doesn't have the measurables Tapper has, but he's been the better player.

How exactly does cutting someone early increase chances of getting him on the PS?

Pretty sure the 24 hours starts when the deadline hits for cut down
Do you think players cut 3 weeks ago had to wait more than 24 hours to be claimed?

The obvious answer is no. Therefore there is not a magic point where players cut prior to cut-day have to wait until cut day to be claimed.

I have no idea if he'll clear waivers, but I do know that every year, people here get excited about guys in the preseason and say, "He won't clear waivers, mark my words," and then the guy clears waivers and ends up on our PS or out on the street. We routinely value our marginal guys more highly than other teams do.

There's no doubt you are accurate about what you said. Every year there are players posters say won't clear waivers, and they don't too. It's an inexact science.

I doubt very much that the league breaks this down by hour as the op suggested. Anyone cut today has to be claimed by this time tomorrow. The league makes all if today's cuts official at 4EST

No need to check. You are correct and he is wrong.

Right. The league is going to parse out the exact minute each player was released and have 1000 different windows for clearing waivers.

That's just nonsense

Aaron Donald about the same size smh. Neal has "it" and other teams will be putting in a waiver claim mark my words.
Aaron Donald 285 when drafted. Reported to be over 290 in the NFL (nfl roster weights usually wrong).

Lewis Neal 261 when drafted. Reported to have been up to 280 in camp.

Neal struggle against the run.

How do you think it works for a player released a week ago?

It's easy to time stamp when a player was released.

It is easy to time stamp when a player's released. There were over 1100 players cut today. Do you honestly think the league has a unique 24 hour window on each? Unmanagable for dealing with waiver claims.

Contrast that to everyone is officially cut at close of business. Teams now have 24 hours to make claims.

Your view just doesn't make any sense. Neither did your love if Parnell, so I understand that you'll often take silly stands

Yeah if he didn't win with quickness he couldn't anchor particularly on the inside.

The poster that you originally replied to said he was already cut which could mean cut yesterday.

There is obviously some time delay because the nfl has to post the player on waivers before he can be claimed.

Once the waiver is broadcast, teams have 24 hours to make the claim.

Already cut means the player was notified. Like I said, league office likely makes everything official at the same time today.

That means the league isn't going by what's posted on Twitter.

Again, step back and think how the league is going to efficiently manage 1200 players on waivers. It most certainly is not through individual deadlines for each player.

I like Neal. But let's face it, we're basing our evaluation of him from a couple plays in preseason games. These coaches have been watching him practice and play since he got here in early May.

If Neal is the answer to our d-line woes, he wouldn't have been cut. I think he'll be back on the practice squad, improve his game there, and maybe make the roster in 2018.

If the player was cut yesterday then he does not wait until today (cut day) to go on waivers. That means team have to put in a claim before they see all of the other cuts. I think that is what the poster was trying to say.

They did away with the cut to 75 most likely because everything is done automatically on computers; whereas, before the cut to 75 would have helped with processing all the cuts by the league office.

And I doubt very much that it actually works that way. Over 1000 players are being cut. It makes far more sense to have everything official at one time and one deadline for claims.

What you are missing is that teams who wanted to make claims would need to keep track of the exact moment a guy was cut to get in on the 24 hour window. That's just not practical. And it likely isn't how things actually work since no one cut Th or Friday has been awarded to another team yet.
