We have a new defensive coach, added some other key coaches maybe a new play caller, we've cut some players who were holding us back, we have injured players on the mend, we will add some rookies and some FAs to an 8-8 team that was very close to the playoffs---what's not to be excited about.

I'd be a little more excited if we'd follow through on that new play-caller idea, but yes, I'm excited.

Other than offensive line, I don't feel that personnel is drawback for this team. If we add to the line, I think we've got the players to compete if the coaching is right. I feel we've got the right guy calling those plays on defense.

I could be like you and preach doom and gloom every year. Then if things look good toward the end of the season, you can have one of your infamous proclamations how you are now sold on Romo, or the Cowboys or whoever is doing well at the time.

You used to troll your own board that you were the admin on and take contrary opinions just to stir stuff up.

Last year, I think injuries had more to do with the finish than anything else. If we have more of the same, we likely will have a similar or worse year.

It's hilarious how seem to consider yourself the arbiter of who and who isn't a fan.

Unfortunately you sing this same song every time you come here to find me.

And also unfortunately I have been saying the same things for years, and they have come to pass.

So, am I just this contrarian you claim that got lucky each year the team failed?

Or just insightful?

But then you came here to find me, so that's an answer in and of itself, ain't it?

You flatter yourself thinking I came here to find you, then again you always have had a high opinion of yourself.

I post on many topics here and very rarely on ones that you are also commenting on. But if it makes you feel special thinking you have a stalker, go ahead. It's just one more thing you are delusional about.

I'm still excited and optimistic, even after reading all the doom and gloom from CZ posters. Bring on the draft!

I feel like I read this post every year, and every year NOTHING changes

I wish I shared your optimism. There won't be any FA additions that will be exciting. There's no cap space. So check that off your list. The draft is a crapshoot, and the Boys's history of drafts is mediocre at best.

There are too many teams in the NFC that are much more talented and/or younger than Dallas.

Let's say Dallas gets a FA or two that become starters, and have a draft where they get solid contributions from 3-4 players; does that make them better than SF? Seattle? ATL? Or even Wash?

Their current talent base is old, unproven or has health-concerns. Romo, Witten, Ware, Ratliff, and Austin are all on the downside of their careers. Murray misses almost as many games as he plays. Lee misses too many games. Carter has a checkered injury history.

So the young, talented (pro-bowl caliber) and healthy players consist of Tyrone Smith, Dez Bryant and Brandon Carr (Claiborne doesn't belong in that category yet, but there's hope). A LT, a WR and a CB. Good building blocks, but where' the DL? Teams that win have outstanding OL and DL, and Jerry Jones consistently ignores this or gives it lower priority than he does acquiring flashy perimeter players. Jones isn't alone in this regard, but he's not good at drafting or thinking about long-term ways to build a consistent winner like Pitt, NE, ATL.

There's no way this team contends for anything meaningful next year short of a miracle "get hot and lucky in the playoffs" type season. And I don't see them beating out Wash or NYG in the East to even make the playoffs in the first place. And certainly won't be as good as GB, NO, or the NFC West Runner Up in order to make a Wild Card.

8-8 is about as good as it can get next year.

I agree, It really is depressing
