Anyone else watch very little NFL this year?

I agree with many here about the Vegas stuff: As soon as the NFL embraced gambling things have changed. The game doesn't seem as 'pure to me anymore.
No, it wasn't pure before, it's just more obvious now.

Agree....the NFL is crap. All the rule changes have ruined the game. You can't hit anyone anymore.....Refs dictate outcomes.....It's all fixed. Vegas now controls win and losses. It's all entertainment now....like the WWE. Nothing is real or genuine. I honestly would be shocked if this league is still functional in 20 years. 10 years....probably. There is too much money @ stake. But kids don't play anymore. Eventually....there isn't gong to be enough real talent to sustain a decent product. Plus....people are starting to see the shenanigans. They just will quit buying into it....like us.
While I don't believe they dictate the outcomes, the refs definitely manipulate the games. I think it's to keep them close so people will stay tuned in, which brings in a ton more money from advertisers.

Pretty close to the same. I now love college football. And they're already talking about expanding the college playoffs even further. W/ 130 or so teams, going to
16 or even 20 something would not be crazy.

And now I get to crow. It's happening exactly as I conjectured that it would. There are now a dozen or so teams who can compete for the crown. Why? Because all those good players who use to stack up on the top 3-5 teams are now spreading out to other teams. Why? Because that many teams now have a chance at the crown. It'll be even more soon. I mean, Boise lost to Oregon by 3 points early in the season. And there is no Georgia or Ala this year, no one is just completely dominant.

Refreshing, refreshing as hades!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I thought the same as well. I told my friends and co-workers who love football that very soon a non-traditional football power would win the natty.

It’s insane to me it took the NCAA this long to implement this. Traditionalist thinking was so freaking dumb. Not only did you improve the product, but you’ll expand your fan base in the process. Instead of doing that, they just left the same system in place that allowed a literal hand full of programs to stock pile talent year after year. Rinse and repeat. It was boring unless you were a fan of those few programs. They supposedly increased the curb appeal of collegiate football by adding meaningless bowl game after meaningless bowl game.

Yawn…

Now college football might literally become America’s pastime.

It’s either watch a lot of football or go antiquing and holiday festivals with the wife. I choose the former :muttley:
I have the same problem. At least you don't have to participate in poetry readings, Ikebana (Japanes Flower Arranging) and Buddhist meditation sessions.

I think this is a record for me for fewest NFL games I’ve watched this year. I’ve watched hardly any non cowboys games and I’ve probably only seen half the cowboys games start to finish.

The product is just boring to me. Regular season is meaningless. It’s just about who gets hot in January since you just have to be respectable to get in now.

I still love the draft but not the regular season.
I watch less solely due to the lack of defense on the field. I don't care if a guy making 25 million gets tackled too hard. Let them play. Can't defend a receiver when you can't hit him. Soon they will need a 12th man on the defensive side of the ball to even things up a bit.

I watched two quarters of football yesterday and I then went to catch up on shows . I use to watch every game possible for the last 40 years . It all changed after Greenbay playoff last January.
I lost the passion for it and it hasn’t come back. I’m here out of habit.

I watch but I am not as interested as the past. Been watching since the late 60's. I get tired of players making a tackle or a catch and act like they have just won the SB. Do your job, make the play and get back in the huddle....bunch of goobers. Gets tiresome after a while. The Cowboys are going to get less tv coverage in Tennessee because of their record. Just the way it goes.

I saw the highlight of that ridiculous flag on Xavier Woods. That personal foul call on a legit tackle is truly sad and a big reason I stopped watching the nfl. Having the toxic twins in charge is the #1 reason and the garbage refs are a close second.

I was watching 5 or 6 games a week, this year I haven't watched much unless Dallas is on.

The poor officiating and nonstop commercials are getting to me.

Horrible flagfests every week. Way too often I'd watch a great play only to see it get called back.

A huge part of the problem: Teams only get to practice in pads once a week. That's where the increased penalties being called comes in. Desperately need more practice time. Game has simply become a lot more sloppy.

If i believed in ownership I’d be more enthusiastic. Plus yeah rules changes, indoor stadiums in turf, and the buddy buddy nature of the players now certainly all take away from it.

It started last year for me. Even lost much interest in college football.

Guilty as charged. I have watched one Cowboys game and about 3 other NFL games this year. I'm suffering from Cowboys lethargy and this spreads over to the rest of the NFL.

Thank you Jerry. It's not about them playing badly. I have seen this before. But Jerry doesn't care and talks absolute nonsense the whole time, just like his QB1. I guess I'm gonna wait until at least one of them is gone before I get back to being a fan instead of a follower again.

The 2010s weren't as bad as the Dak years. At least back then we didn't know what's coming.
That's it really, Jerry managed to squash all hope and without that the fun fades away. Add to that the general stupidity of the NFL and I'm just not as interested.

I totally agree, look at Belichick, he could have waited for a job offer after the NFL season is over, but he elected to jumped ship because of all the BS that is dragging down the NFL and fleeced North Carolina University out of $50 million dollars to be their HC. He'll be dealing with younger professional athletes who he'll have much more control of.

All the sentiments being expressed in this thread is not out of line with what is happening in society.

The NFL may still retain much of its economic strength, but less of it will be predicated on loyal diehard fans of a singleteam, and more of it on following the trials and tribulations of an entire NFL season through fantasy football.

More and more fans will follow the game not for the team, but for the individual results of the players they have assembled for fantasy football.

If that is the growth engine for the NFL then what you want is every single team to be in the race to week 18. Perfect league parity where there is a different SuperBowl every year and no dynasties developing ala Packers, Steelers, Cowboys, 49ers, Patriots and Chiefs.

It will be a league based on individual players and individual highlight moments and less about the standings.

And with teams like the Lions being the best team for 13 weeks and then due to the grind of the season, get racked with injury lose their best players, turns the NFL into a survivor league.

The only games I've watched are the cowboys,1st time in my 60 years that's ever happened but I think alot of that had to do with my dad passing 3yrs ago, watching football hasn't been the same since.
