So it's April 2, 1989. Wait, let me start at the beginning...
A few weeks earlier the 12 year old version of me had given a speech in which Linda Carter, the co-owner of the Dallas Mavericks, was in the audience. She liked what I said and arranged for me to have front row seats and meet the players after the Mavs played the Miami Heat.
Before the game my mom and I got on a private elevator and next to us was Jimmy Johnson and his girlfriend, Rhonda. This was only a month after he replaced Tom Landry was kinda like meeting the grim reaper. Before it was even his trademark, my mom remarked that she recognized him because of his hair.

I’ve met both several times
Jerry’s wife’s family is from a small town in Arkansas and they own a string of banks as well as most everything else there
So I met Jerry’s brother in law through a friend who owns the news paper there
Been in his box at old stadium many times
Once we was there when we beat an undefeated colts team and ended up hanging out so long we almost missed our flight but Stephen got the cops to give us an escort so we made it
The women in the family are all super nice
Stephen and Jerry are both nice but during a game you don’t talk to them at all

I met both at an event for season ticket holders they had out in west Texas. Lots of oil money so they had a little deal where as a season ticket holder you could bring a couple of guests in hopes of them becoming season ticket holders as well. Jerry was super cool and is very charismatic Stephen as well. As you can see in my avatar he is hugging my son as if he was his own. A cool story from that event is we approached Jerry for a photo opportunity with him. I told him hey Jerry I've been a season ticket holder for over ten years and have only missed one game and that was due to a broken foot so don't you think that qualifies me for field passes. He chuckled and said well hell yeah it does and he hollers out does anyone have a piece of paper I can use so I can get this woman some field passes. Then he says never mind that you go tell your rep right now I said you can have field passes to any game you want. Sure enough we got them for the Green Bay game back in 2013.
As far as players we have gotten to meet quite a few. The coolest were Sean Lee, Michael Irvin, Dez, DWare Novacek, Terrance Newman, Tashard Choice even old Phil Costa along with Charles Haley. Haley told my son to cut his hair because he wasn't a girl lol. The only butthead was Jay Ratliff. Several others we met were just kind of meh including Aikman who was a borderline arse.

Just curious if anyone out there actually met Jerry Jones or Stephen in person. How did it happen? Just a chance meeting? A charity or football event? Business meeting?

What was he like?

I thought someone mentioned in some thread that he met Jerry. Not sure who it was.

Yep... plus had a cigar with Stephen in the Corral after the Quincy victory over the iggles...

I have a funny story. Back in the mid 90’s, the Cowboys’ web site was just horrible. It was always down, always crashing. So I looked up the site on WhoIs to find the contact information of someone and guess whose name was on the domain contact? Jerry freaking Jones. Talk about something that would never happen in 2021.

So I emailed him and they responded! I was contacted by, I want to say Derek Eagleton but it might have been someone else, and below in the headers I saw that the email was forwarded by Jerry Jones. It turns out though that it wasn’t Jerry senior, it was Jerry Jones junior. Anyway we arranged a phone call and I tried to convince them to hire me to fix it but all they wanted to understand were the problems and how to fix it.

The story doesn’t end there. So in 1999 (I think), the team was terrible and Aikman was in his final years. I decided to email Jerry senior directly - I could figure out his email address based on the naming convention. I wish I had a copy of it somewhere but I don’t. The email said that the team is falling apart and Aikman needs a weapon, please trade for Joey Galloway even if it takes two #1s!

He didn’t respond, but the trade happened! I always wonder if I in some small way planted that in his head or if based on my email he thought it was a good idea in order to appease the fans. If I ever do meet him some day, I’m going to ask!!

So you began the legacy of throwing around multiple 1st for WRs? Lol

I have been around both of them. Seem nice enough and
like to have a good time. Stephen hit on my wife when he was drunk.
Hung out with the grandson at the owners suite of a Spurs game. Very nice and well mannered kid.

Well Stephen must have an eye for a beautiful and classy woman. I hope he didn't make a complete arse out of himself.

I met Stephen and Jerry Jr at Coyote Ugly on the San Antonio Riverwalk when I was at TC as a fan for three days. Bar was pretty empty except for them and Mike Doocey and Hanson. Stephen never sat down, just leaned on the bar. All of them were fun.

What’s your definition of “JDS”? If it means I have a problem with us not winning enough then I certainly have that disease.

You seem more obsessed with my criticisms of Jerry’s lack of results than anything else I have opinions on. It’s almost comical how obsessed you are about that. I have no problem with you or anyone else’s opinions of JJ or of this team. I just find it odd how obsessed you are with my opinions and translating that into a “derangement”. But it’s just your opinion, so that’s cool.
Keep doing you Bob! Love your postings on here .

At least someone is taking responsibility for the Chan Gailey/Dave Campo years. Bravo.

I have not but I once had a dream in which Jerry and I and Reggie Swinton got into a car and went to Weinetschnitzel to buy some polish sandwiches and where Reggie was supposed to sign his new contract. Man, that was the poppermost of the toppermost!

Meet all kinds in this world. Something tells me you thought all this up by yourself without any drugs or alcohol.

Who are you to judge what happens or not?
Are you some sort of gatekeeper?
Why be a judgmental Judy?

You need to ask for a commission for stealing your idea. Never give away free advice.
