Anyone still thinks this leads to an Adrian Peterson signing?

I'll climb out on this limb with you. I would never give up more than a #3 pick but this Front Office has turned over every leaf possible in this offseason, except at RB. They didn't overpay for DeMarco, they didn't overdraft a RB in the draft and didn't go after any FAs except McFadden. If you look at the forest rather than the trees, it really seems like the team was saving up ammunition to get a RB late in the offseason.

The Cowboys will have 10MM or so free when they restructure Brandon Carr and I just don't buy they will go into a potential Super Bowl season content with a RB corp of McFadden, a 3rd down back in Randle and two guys that are essentially Practice Squad guys in Williams and Dunbar.

Finally, a voice of reason! My sentiments exactly!!

Which is the equivalent of having a Kraco Car Stereo in a Ferrari

Dallas may look to bring in a RB as teams are forced to cut their rosters down, outside of that giving up top picks would be a big mistake. Minn is not going to give up Peterson for nothing, teams really interested will have to come up big as in 2 1st rd pick.

I'm not trying to sound like a smart-a or anything, but who would you pick up (or would you have picked up) at RB this offseason who would be a clear upgrade over what we currently have (without overpaying of course)?

From what I remember the pickings weren't too great in free agency aside from Murray obviously, and unless we were planning to trade up in the first round I can't imagine that anyone else would have been a clear starter there.

Sure there's always the trade route, but how often does it actually happen where a team, especially us, trades for a starter? McClain last year was a rare situation. In most cases, trading for a starter means overpaying unless the other team was desperate to get rid of him.

That the Dez signing frees up additional cap space for one more BIG addition to the team...say a BIG NAME RB from up NORTH who WANTS to be in Dallas?

I'm pretty sure any and every Dallas insider has already said that we have literally not interest. Not to mention, the Vikings have said multiple times he is not going anywhere.

That thing plays 8 Track Tapes right? That's hilarious.

I agree, I do think McFadden will do well and Randle is fine if he stays in a limited role, but I just don't see the team loading up for bear at every position and then being a sprained ankle away from having Lance Dunbar as its starter.

There is an asterisk whenever anyone from either side says that (beyond the tampering rules). The statement actually looks like this:

We are not interested in Peterson*

* At the current asking price.

When the dust settles the Vikings will take a 2nd or 3rd round pick. Dallas knows the asking price comes down later and later in the offseason, and that the money from Dez and Carr would free up at the same time.

I'm not saying it has to be Peterson, but my gut feel is that our starting RB isn't on the roster yet.

For all of the negative Nancies who don't think we will go after Peterson, I seriously doubt you all have ROCK SOLID confidence in a running back corps of McFadden, Randle, and Dunbar to collectively get it done this year. If you do, you better pray that Romo doesn't go down for 3-4 games because you can kiss a SB appearance good-bye. A RB like Peterson could keep defenses honest if we had to go with Weeeeeden for 3-4 games...McFadden, et. al can't!

Agree with your post, its been slim pickings at RB. I would have drafted Buck Allen in the third at a minimum, I originally had Ajayi in the 2nd in my mock but obviously didn't know his medicals. I've looked at overpaid RBs that might be a salary dump and don't see any, which is why I keep coming back to Peterson.

To me, it isn't so much that I'm Peterson's biggest fan as the forest/trees gut feels that Dallas has been saving its ammo up for a big move. And that despite the public statements, they really aren't going into the season with the current crop of RBs.

It took a whole day to get back to this. Any 'evidence' AP hopefuls were clinging to isn't even true anymore. He's reporting to camp. He said he was happy to back. Just let it go.

It does almost seem as though they were intentionally staying away from adding RBs this offseason (except for cheap guys like Days and Seastrunk). I can understand the thought that maybe they're just waiting for the right person to get cut or put on the trade block or something. But to me that doesn't really jive too well with the proactive approach that Dallas has taken lately (see the LB position this offseason).
