That the Dez signing frees up additional cap space for one more BIG addition to the team...say a BIG NAME RB from up NORTH who WANTS to be in Dallas?
The reason no teams really tried to trade for him was because the did not want to both give up picks AND pay what he is scheduled to make with the Vikings.
He was allowed to talk to other teams and would have had to take a pay cut in order to get traded. He decided he preferred the money to getting away from the Vikings.
The Cowboys always have the option to trade for a RB Is none of the current guys on the roster can get the job done. The Vikings would likely take the same picks that they would have taken this off-season, but it's more likely the Cowboys would trade for a guy like Lamar Miller if he is not the #1 RB for the Dolphins this year.
Randle is not expected to be a 3rd down back. He is expected to compete with McFadden to be the starter.
Randle was very good in his limited opportunities in 2014.
McFadden still looked physically very good in 2014, but the Raiders have terrible blocking and they don't have the passing threat to prevent defenses from loading up against the run. McFadden is also a better pass blocker than Murray.
Ryan Williams was terrific in the preseason last year as a runner, but his blocking and lack of ST ability held him back. They had him focused on blocking for the entire year that he has been with the team. If he can stay healthy, he has a chance to be a decent backup.
Dunbar is a player that Garrett loves for his work ethic and ability to be a WR if needed.
IIRC, Murray had over 800 yards gained before 1st contact last season. With that type of blocking there should be many RBs that can have success. From my review of his 2014 game footage, McFadden rarely ever had any yards gains
before 1st contact. For him 1st contact was normally in the backfield.
