Anyone still wish we'd taken Moss instead of Ellis?

Why does the NFL worry about marijuana? This isn't a performance enhancer at all -- unless you are playing video games, then it really helps. So what if it is illegal. We've got players all over the league taking prescription pain meds that are chemically similar to heroin. We've had a number of ex-players die from legal pain meds. I can't recall anyone dying from marijuana use.

As far as Sultan's racist comment goes I think it is right on. Mark Stepnoski admitted to getting high his entire career. I read several stories from guys like Len P and Peter King that talked about how responsible he was because he never got high when he knew he would be tested. Moss smokes a little and he's a bad guy. Come on now.

You deal with reality and the reality is it is illegal and if a player gets busted he is suspended not just letting himself down but teammates, coaches and the organization in general. Teams pay out big bucks for these guys and deserve to have the player toe the line while he is playing in the NFL. What he does when his career is over is his business. As for Step he is lucky if he was using while playing especially considering how much heat was coming down on the Cowboys at that time. As for race it plays no part in my comment what so ever. You are correct about the pain killers and if you recall Farve was placed on step one of the substance program when it was determined that he was addicted to the pain killers. As I said what a player does after he retires or quites in his business but as long as you are collecting a paycheck the rules must be followed!

While I would like all the players on my favorite team to conduct themselves as good citizens, the likelyhood of such a thing is just about nil. And yes, that includes our beloved Cowboys.

But I am not going to play the role of hypocrite and say if given the choice, I'd much rather a Cowboy be a wonderful citizen and a pretty good player. The alternative being a magificent performer with some issues pertaining to character.

In an ideal setting, I would definitely want the best of both worlds. Who wouldn't? Sure, I'll take the great guy with family values and, oh by the way, a shoe-in for Canton once his career comes to a close. In fact, give me 53 of 'em.

Short of that, since the notion really isn't feasible, give me the top-flight talent with questions. Provided, of course, the athlete in question does not allow those personal issues to prevent him from playing each and every Sunday.

Just keep whatever in check. Whatever he has to do, do it. Randy Moss plays every week, basically. He plays on Sundays. He has played in 109/112 possible regular season games. So, I don't care that he beats the testing. Just keep beating it and it's a nonissue.

When those problems keep said player from suiting up, then I care.

With those things in mind, I've got no problems with Greg Ellis. Glad he's a Cowboy.

But many players totally abuse the prescription drugs they get. If you take more than the prescribed dose, you are abusing the drug. If you obtain multiple prescriptions or use someone else's prescription you are doing something illegal.

My point is that we have players abusing pain meds. To me, that is very different from someone occassionally smoking herb.

Man you could tell me it adds 10 years to you life and it does not change anything it is still illegal and as long as it it and the league test for it I expect the player to stay clean. Evidently people have forgotten about Leon Lett and the constant failed drug test, I don't want to ever see this team go throught that. As for Moss as great of a talent that he is he is just not worth the headach and evidently Minn got to that point where it just was not worth it any longer same goes TO just not worth the trouble he create for the team blieve it or not but there are some very talented players out there who do not have to constantly create problems for their team and I'll take them any day of the week over a headcase

My problem is with the league testing for a substance that is neither performance enhancing or particularly dangerous while at the same time turning a blind eye to pain killer abuse -- if you've got a prescription you've got a pass on your urine test for those substances.

As far as the constantly failed drug test goes, Jones was a fool with Lett. He should have cut him earlier or at least put the team in a position where we didn't rely on the guy as a major part of the D.

As I said Favre was placed on the 1 stage of the substance abuse program when it was found out that he was abusing pain killers so the league does look for that. I'm not saying weed is a great evil but right now it is aginst the NFL rules and I don't see that changing anytime soon so until they have a change of heart takes I expect players to put the bong down, do it all you want when your career is over but not while your in the league. As for Lett maybe Jones should have cut him had he known Lett would constantly be screwing up I'm sure he would have.

I didn't say smoking weed is "Bad". But knowing that it's against LEAGUE RULES, it's pretty f'in stupid to come out and publicly admit that you smoke it. Real real real f'in stupid. And define "Best player". IMO, he's not the best player for a team cuz he's a cancer. In football, you have to have a certain degree of team chemistry to be successful. Moss destroys team chemistry. Now, he's not as bad as he use to be, but he's still bad. And now we know he's a moron.

Jerry was and is criticized for not drafting Moss and would have been criticized if he had drafted Moss.

this thread should be ended with your statement... I agree with whatever had transpired you would still be right on the money on this one.
