Anyone who would blame this loss on Romo needs their head examined

Just because we expect the defense to be bad doesn't excuse them.

The number on the Cap are 50/50. We should hold the defense to the exact same standard we hold the offense.

Dude you are missing the point. Everybody knows this defense is an epic fail. i acknowledged that. The silliness is expecting them to play any different than an epci fail and when they dont point the finger. This game was gift wrapped and the offense settled for 5 FG's and only put up 10 points in the 2nd half. Thats what lost us the game, not the defense.

Why do you guys expect this defense to perform any better than they have been? Somebody, anybody, please tell me why you would look at the bunch they run out on the field and expect anything?

So with your specious logic, we just absolve the defense of any responsibility for the result? Is that your angle? It's a bad one my friend. The only game that matters is the one you play today, not tomorrow or yesterday. Your premise is that the offense should not be disturbed or suffer the influence of the opposing team's defense. That too is a faulty premise. Dallas scored well above it's season average ppg, especially when you remove defensive scores from the tally.

I posted this in another thread. Here's the link that quantifies this next statement.

http://cowboyszone.com/threads/broa...after-this-season.276682/page-13#post-5351131

Here's the Cliff'sNotes:

Tony Romo has 5 seasons where his defense has been ranked 20th or worse in scoring.

Tom Brady has NEVER had such a season.

Drew Brees has 4 such seasons (in New Orleans) and the Saints have won 7, 7, 8 and 13 wins during those years. His stats for that 13-win year aren't significantly different from any other season where his defense ranked 20th or lower. The main difference was his defense was 2nd in the NFL in takeaways (39) and the Saints scored 9 or 10 times while their offense was on the bench.

Aaron Rogers has 2 seasons (counting this year) where his defense has sandbagged him. 2006 the Packers won 6 games. He has had 1 seasons with the 19th ranked defense but it was the year he threw for 45 TDs and 6 INTs, by far the best of his career.

Peyton Manning has many of these seasons, including this year. The Broncos defense has given up a similar amount of points as Dallas but the key difference between each team's records is that Manning has 49 TDs. Peyton has had big-win seasons with crappy defenses as well so he's basically the only QB in the NFL who can overcome having a defense that is ranked 20th or below in scoring.

Given Rogers ridiculous season of 45 TDs and Manning's 49 TDs this year, pretty much the only way a team wins with such a crappy defense is by having an unrealistic amount of TDs that only the best QBs in the league have had during their most productive years.

Without a doubt and more evident than ever after tonight, Romo is also hampered by his coaching staff.

With that said, you can call Tony Romo a choker if you like. He's certainly made his mistakes. But just know that nobody else is overcoming the crap he's been sandbagged with for the vast majority of his career and the only way he could even have a chance to shake that label is by throwing for 45+ TDs year-in and year-out........basically he just hast to move Heaven and Earth.

If we want to win championships, then yes, the quarterback should be expected to perform like Peyton Manning.

Bravo. I never agree with you but today that has changed. I made a thread last week that said the same thing. We KNOW the defense sucks, what is the offenses problem though? The offense is 100% healthy.

Because it's obvious why we lost because of the defense thinking the game is over and not forcing a punt in the second half. Yeah I know he threw 2 int's but he also lead the team to a 26-3 Lead which should have been enough for us to be 8-6. So the blame goes to the two idiots below

1. Garrett.........too scared to for it on 4th down atleast once and went for too many FG's

2. Kiffin.............the old senile fool never made any kind of adjustment once the Packers cut the lead to 29-17

Romo is ABOVE criticism tonight, and I can't believe I am saying it but it's the truth
He should've know 26 points wasn't enough. Can't throw picks in the 4th quarter.

They scored 36 points.

Has the standard become if they don't score 48 they are a problem just because the defense is hellaciously atrocious?

Romo deserves some blame. SOME.

Not nearly all of it, though.

Yes, yes does.
Lots of blame to go around.

Not running the all way, way more is #1-10.
So we can start with #11 and go from there.

It's funny to read people say they are not giving the defense a pass, and then reword it slightly different to where they are still giving the defense a pass simply because they expect them to be bad. Romo haters are so giddy with excitement, they can't even think straight.

Bad time to throw picks.
Of course, he throws less 4th qtr picks than almost anyone that ever played. So I suspect he already knows that. My guess is it wasn't on purpose.

Bottom line is they should have run more and they would have won by 2-3 TDs

the complete and utter delusion continues week after week protecting Romo from any blame..
It's ridiculous. You can't throw picks in the 4th quarter. He's a second tier qb and by the time we fix this team, he will be finished! We need to look for our qb of the future. This offseason. We need a new starting qb by 2015

Yes, how dare they let Romo throw those two pics. Granted, Romo did not cost us the game by himself, but he sure as hell should not be left off your little list.

If you say something over and over again, does it come true? Because you are sure giving it a whirl.

Saw this little tid bit on the notes on the ESPN box score.

"This is the 7th time Tony Romo has thrown a pick in the 4th quarter or overtime with his team tied or leading by 1 possession. That is nearly twice as many as any other QB since 2006 (when Romo became the starter in Dallas)."

This doesn't even take into account INTs when behind. Wow.

There are a couple reasons why Romo should take a chunk of the blame for this.

1. Under-throwing: Romo, the old gunslinger, was throwing under and behind his targets all night. The INT to Miles Austin over the middle, the deep throw down the sidelines that could've been a Dez TD, the actual Dez TD in the 2nd half. If it wasn't for Dez, it could've been another pick.

2. Play-calling: Romo has taken on a bigger role in the play-calling this season and it has shown. Fewer big plays, and fewer INTs. It's the reason why guys like Cole Beasly are thriving in this system. But Romo needs to know when to say, "Hey, Garrett. Let's run the damn ball!" If this is his team, more now than ever, he has to take some responsibility for not putting Garret and Callahan on the spot.

And perhaps they did call runs? But Romo saw the blitz coming and checked out of it? If so, Romo changing a run to a pass in such a late-game situation was a bad move.

The truth in this post!

It's... it's blinding!!

7 ints since 06 with the game tied or up by one score in the 4th quarter or OT. Almost double any other qb.

See, anybody can find a stat to support their narrative. He is what he is. Second tier.

Obviously the Defense sucks. No hope there this season.

So that means Romo must play well. He must be accurate. He can't miss on opportunities like deep throws to Dez. Not especially to a team as bad as the Rodger-less Packers. Obviously he can't throw picks on back to back possessions.

Romo needs to be much better. IF WE MAKE THE PLAYOFFS, its because Romo got us there by playing extremely well.

And Romo must never forget, DEMARCO IS HIS FRIEND.
