All I'm saying is let's wait till all the evidence is in before we convict the POS.

Sign of the times I guess.

I have heard that Joe was a big jerk and kind of a mean guy. May or not be true since they come from people selling books after his death. Those types of stories did not make the press back then and that was with him playing in New York. I wonder how guys from the past would fair in the current era of instant communication and the need to follow every single facet of a stars life. If you got nothing to hide it doesn't matter.

Poindexter may be under investigation as well. I would certainly be looking at him, at least to determine whether incompetance or collusion was at the basis of the bungled investigation. Either is possible. Hell, there might even be a good reason for his behavior, though I cannot imagine what it would be.
Yup, he may well be and it wouldn't surprise me one bit if he attended couple of those dog fights, based on his comments concerning dog fighting.

Check the article again. The Department of Agriculture is there TODAY.

Animals, hence dogfighting, fall under the umbrella of the DoA and they've been the controlling federal agency the entire time.

I think we all want it to end one way or the other. I've rarely seen something like this take so long. Makes me wonder what they uncovred and how far reaching it is and who will be implicated. Sort of like the baseball steroids issues.

I think a much more likely scenario is that they found very little evidence the first time.

Whenever the feds get involved, the last thing they want to do is come away with nothing. They'll turn over every rock on that property if they have to but someone, maybe not Vick himself but someone, is going to jail.

I confess, I probably would not have thought to put it in that context but OK, sure, that works too.

I'm sure there were those who would be characterized as "undesirable" in those day. Your right, things didn't make the papers the way they do now. Having said that, I'd imagine that players then were not nearly as over the top as they are now. In those days, even great players didn't make the dollars players make now. In short, the resources to act as big a fool as some of the modern players do was simply not there. In the end, most of those guys had paying jobs in the off season. I suspect, if for no other reason then that, it kept the players of that era more grounded then todays players. JMO.

I think the Feds have finally gotten around to interviewing the informant that told them where the bodies are buried. The way things are going, I wouldn't be surprised if someone in the county law enforcement system complained that Poindexter was intentionally screwing things up and the Feds decided to look into it.

If you have ever seen the Feds work, they do everything slow. They will not use any testimony not gathered by them, the will research every piece of evidence, and the will not do a thing until they are sure of what they have.

I would think that they are just now to the point where Poindexter was before he overtly tried to bury the case. They will next have to take all their evidence to a Federal Grand Jury, I would think, and try to get an indictment.

Peplaw can verify that it you can get a ham sandwich indicted by a grand jury, if you have enough crumbs.

I would think that Poindexter will not be an FDA matter, but if anything comes up in their investigation, I am sure they will turn it over to state investigators.

There may be another aspect to this we haven't discussed. A new USDA law says farmers who breed livestock of any kind are now required to register all animals, including dogs and horses and well as meat animals and account for each animal that is born or sold or dies as well as detailed health records, including where they were taken for treatment, shows, etc,. Every animal must be accounted for and that might possibly apply to dog breeders as well, I don't know. I do know; however, that they are trying to pass laws now making it apply to everyone in the USA and every animal in the USA. I hope they do not succeed as it is a nightmare of paperwork with large fines for non-compliance.

That's a very valid point about the seemingly slow pace of the federal investigations. They do dot every i multiple times.

The other thing people may notice as this moves forward is the scheduling. Local officials oftentimes plan things around an athlete's off-season, postponements until their team's eliminated... The feds will have a trial at their convienence, not any potential defendant's.

FEDS BACK AT VICK PROPERTY

WAVY-TV reports that federal authorities are searching again the Surry County, Virginia of Falcons quarterback Michael Vick.

Citing unnamed sources, WAVY-TV says that agents are "looking for more animal remains buried on the property."

The "more" is significant, because it has not yet been reported with certainty that any animal remains were found when feds searched the property for the first time last month. WVEC-TV at one point posted an item on its web site suggesting that ESPN Radio had reported the removal of carcasses from the property, but WVEC later explained that the report of the report was erroneous.

With that said, video of from last month's search by federal officials contained images of a worker fitting himself with a mouth/nose mask (despite 90-degree temperatures), and one of the agents was quoted as saying, "I hope I never see this place again."

UPDATE: Video on WAVY-TV's web site shows agents digging at the site, and sifting through the dirt in search of dog remains. Some are wearing masks -- and not paper mouth-and-nose masks, but full-blown WWI-style gas masks. (Maybe they've finally found the WMDs.)

You rang??:D
Definitely true of a grand jury in a state system... well in Texas anyway. I was pretty surprised how informal the grand jury was the first time I went to talk to them. The prosecutor basically says, "Jump," and they say "How high?"

Federal grand juries may be a different story, but I suspect not.

And any sentence will not be coordinated to take place during a player's offseason either. I couldn't believe Jamal Lewis got to serve his 3 months or whatever it was, after the season ended.... such a joke. I wish I could dictate to the court system when my client was going to serve his time.

Before this gets too out of control, I cut and pasted this straight out of a Lyrics site so if it is inaccurate, I appoligies on behalf of the Lycos sight or whatever link I used.

On the rest, I suppose it does take time to do this but lord, seems like a good month has passed from the first Federal Search. Seems like an long time between the two. I don't know, maybe it takes that long.
