I would let Leary, TWill, Church, Carr, Butler, Escobar, TMcClain, JCrawford, Dunbar go for the comp picks

I would re-sign Mo, Wilcox, Butler, Sanchez and even DMC for the vet min

Could maybe get a 4,4,6,7.......means we wouldn't be players in FA but we never are
You do remember that who ever leaves in FA this year - the comp picks come next year 2018. We wont be getting any comp picks this year.

I almost pretty much agree with everyone you have there. Thx for saving me a load of typing!

I would make Carr and McFadden a priority out of the bunch. Carr is at a good price, not a flashy player, but is dependable to be on the field unlike most of our secondary unit.

They signed Alfred Morris to be that every down cover. Still wonder what landed him in the dog house.
Lack of speed. Almo has every other trait you want in a RB, he just can't hit the hole anymore, even with elite blocking.

They really must not have been impressed with Darius Jackson. It sure seemed like he was a good candidate for backup.

I think they just got cute and tried to sneak him through. At least Broaddus seems to think that's what happened. Hard to say, but I was looking forward to letting McFadden walk and seeing Jackson beat out Morris for that backup RB spot. I'd like to see us draft a younger player with some speed and some scat-back and ST ability in the late rounds if there's one there.

I will weep when the Cowboys let Ron Leary go.

I would not sacrifice anything on the offensive line to build the defense. You'll end up losing your strength for an average defense.

For everyone saying that they can let the majority walk, who are you going to replace them with? Uncertain rookies? Mid-level FA's?

If you want to upgrade someone, you have to keep them and groom a replacement unless you hit on a top tier FA signing.

Re-sign as much of these guys if possible, and draft at those same positions.

Carr and Church need to be re-signed. Then McClain.

Mo should be cheap.

Draft at S, CB and see if you can replace Church and Carr in the future. Wouldn't let them walk without an improvement though. They are very solid players.

Heres the answer:

What are you keeping them for? They had time, they played the season, they had 2 weeks to prep, they had home field advantage, they had the coach of the year. On the big stage, when it mattered, when it counted, they failed. So what are you actually keeping? A Dunbar like player? A legend so profound his accomplishments make up nothing. Heath had 2 interceptions, and hes young and one of the better ones.

We know what we are keeping but its nothing special. We know what we have as a unit and combined its a first place walk out of the playoffs. If you replace them with cardboard replicas you acheieved the same goal.

at least by replacing most you might get other talent and you get another concotion, but at least you tried something. Most of the guys on our defense isnt worth keeping and most wouldnt make other NFL rosters. Get over it.

What is dire this year is pass rush, to pass up on it is to say "fans we are NOT taking this serious" And than we have to pray we have a player. Chances are bigger we dont. THan again most of the board loved the DLaw pick, so steeped in mediocrity we are another mid player excites the base.

We also need to pick up 2 pass rushers in the hopes one pans out. Because passing up on Dwight Freeny paid off.

Dump who you want, this has to be a good young core. We didnt make noise last year, i said that, regardless what we do next year has got to set up year 3 for Dak. Get the defense on the right track, whoever you want to dump now, do it now, replace it with a cardboard box for all i care. Draft who you believe in, get some "field guys" out of FA, with the intent that yes they might be replaced in Daks 3rd year and get the defense ready to make some noise.

We have to do something, because we know Garrett cant. So change the philosphy of the defense. Get 2 pass rushers. That will set up the rest of the defense, draft D and draft hard, doesnt have to be all defensive picks, but majority do. Use the draft to set up our FA, and get to work on a core defensive that attacks.

I resign Carr - Willcox

maybe Mc Fadden but a rookie can take Dunbars place

I thought that Willcox was playing better than Church

the rest a JAGS

Agree on Wilcox, he is an ascending player while Church has flat lined. Not a bad player, but I just don't see him getting any better.

Carr. Wilcox. Mo. Butler. Whatever RB you think has some workhorse to him at the cheapest contract available.

I agree with you and Broaddus. I think they messed up and lost what could have been a good, young, backup running back. And ultimately ended up with a guy like Richard Ash on the roster who in all likelihood won't be around next year.

Brandon Carr and Morris Claiborne are two cornerbacks set to hit the market. Same with safeties Barry Church and J.J. Wilcox, wide receivers Terrance Williams and Brice Butler and running backs Darren McFadden and Lance Dunbar. To me, Carr, Church and McFadden should be the priorities. Where’s Ronald Leary? I just don’t see a way the Cowboys keep him. I see him getting a deal that will average around $8 million a year from some team on the open market. Considering the money that will be committed to Zack Martin, I can’t see the Cowboys having four offensive linemen averaging at least $8 million a year. Carr’s availability makes him a better option than Claiborne, who is younger but hurt too often. Church is a valuable part of the defense for his playmaking and leadership. McFadden provides some every-down cover if something were to happen to Ezekiel Elliott. I’d put Williams in the Leary category of him getting a deal from somebody else that the Cowboys can’t match. Butler could be back on a short-term deal. But I wouldn’t put either in the top three.

I'd offer one year contracts to both Carr and Claiborne. $5 million for Carr, $3 million for Claiborne (with some playing time incentives). That buys me another year to groom Brown and any rookies as replacements.

I'd offer a modest deal to Church and Wilcox, first come, first served. And I'd try to retain Terrell McClain at the right price.

While I'd love to keep Leary, they can't afford him, and I'm not paying big money to the guy who finished 97th in receptions in 2016. I'd bring McFadden back as the backup for another season, he seems like a team guy who's fine in that role and he brings juice and versatility that Morris doesn't. Dunbar is a waste of time. Said it before, will say it again. He should have been the cut, not Darius Jackson.

Carr, Mo, TMac, Church. That's who I'd like back. Don't want to rebuild too much. Carr is solid, Mo is really good (if healthy, duh). TMac is a stud. Church is "good" at what he does and was having a nice season before the injury. Jones really shores up our backend secondary to the benefit of Church.

We let all these guys go like so many want, we have more holes to fill. Those four are musts, imo, and can be had for reasonable contracts.

I'm with you here. The team can't simply replace their entire secondary and expect good results in their first season. And besides, I think they have an advantage in re-signing both Carr and Claiborne that they wouldn't with anyone else. Both guys have publicly stated that they enjoy playing in Dallas and preferred to stay and finish what they started.

I'm not saying to overpay or make long term deals with either guy, but I think the smart move are one-year deals for each that allow you to transition to replacements more gradually.

Agreed -- I'd like to see them add a Sproles-type back in the draft. Besides, if they really want Darius Jackson back, they can put in a waiver claim when the Browns cut him in camp. I see no way he cracks the top three in that lineup assuming they add a back in the draft, and they have too many picks not to.
