Are Crayton's days as a Cowboy numbered?

Don't mistake Crayton's pass catching abilities with his punt return abilities. As a WR, he's not going to get TO type of numbers. He is a good 2nd or 3rd option if the D is taking the No. 1 out of the game.

As a PR, he was a stop gap until someone else who can provide more comes along. We tried that with Pacman, but that didn't work. No one else on the roster, with the exception of T-New (and that's being liberal), is as consistent with PR duties. This is the first muffed punt I can remember happening with Crayton receiving.

IMO, this is almost as ridiculous as people calling for Romo's head. Just because a player doesn't live up to your expectations doesn't mean we should cut or trade them. This game isn't about you or me. It's about Ws and Ls. Last I checked, we got a W Sunday ... or did I miss something?

It was definitely a waste based on what we gave up for him.

Agreed.

I think any player would have to play exceptional for a trade like that to be deemed successful.

Question.

Let's say Tony Romo is playing at a high level throughout this Season.

Do you think Hurd, Austin and Crayton are sufficient to make a run at a Super Bowl?

Personally, I think with the bucks we have at running back, the Offensive Line and Tony Romo having a strong season, it would've been enough.

Unfortunately, it would be tough if the defense isn't playing well.

Part of me wants to think that Crayton is the return man because he can throw.

The other part of me doesn't think we will ever see it so why bother.

Good point.

 I don't think I've ever seen someone throw during a punt return. Kickoff ... yes. Punt ... no.

so is this the topic of the bye week? Is this our crisis this week!

Well ya, we wouldn't just cut him. WR for WR trade maybe?

Kevin Curtis in Philly could be on the trading block soon.......

I'm not a huge Crayton fan, but he's decent in the slot positition. If we can get a good trade out of him, I'm all for it, but cutting him would be a bad move imo.

Not this week. Let's wait til next week and we realize Jerry didn't fire Wade. Just kidding guys. But, I don't like the "take one, give one" mentality that's going on right now.

Well, under this scenario, the defense, Romo, OL, RB's, and Witten/Bennett would have to all play lights out. In other words, if you are dominant in every area but one, then yeah, you can win a Super Bowl.

But, generally, in order to really dominant in the running game, you'll need some kind of passing / down field threat to open things up. Many felt Witten would have a big year and hoped Bennett would have a break out season. But Bennett hasn't done much and Witten, even with the game on the line, is being held in to block.

So I think it would be very difficult to make a SB run with our top WR's being Crayton, Austin and Hurd. But we could've still upgraded the WR area without overpaying for Roy. We could've drafted a WR on day one if we had our pick back and/or signed a WR in FA. Also, without overpaying for RW, we could've even kept *gasp* TO. I wasn't opposed to letting TO go, but if our only options at WR were going to be Crayton, Austin and Hurd, then I would've kept TO. So, overpaying for RW wasn't a necessity.

I have to disagree on Terrell Owens Bach.

I believe in 2008, he was more toxic to the team then Wade Phillips and Jason Garret and that's saying alot.

From my understanding, Wide Receivers drafted in the 1st Round struggle quite a bit.

I'm not sure what we could have done because I rarely follow the draft and I don't remember who was out there.

But I have to believe there was a better option than trading all those picks away.

Personally, I thought it was foolish to bring Roy Williams here with Terrell Owens on the roster.

But hey, I bet on Madden the Cowboys were a beast.

I agree that there were other options other than overpaying for RW.

And in regards to TO, either he was going to be gone or Garrett. While it was a possibility we could've kept TO, it wasn't likely.

The thing about the draft though is the same excuse I hear every year as to why we don't select a WR early. Yet we don't seem to have a problem drafting other positions even if they don't contribute or start from day one. But if it's a WR, then if he doesn't start right away then it's 'no can do.' Doesn't make much sense to me.
