Are Crayton's days as a Cowboy numbered?

Bledsoe to Brady
Julius Jones to Barber
Crayton to Miles Austin

nothing new here, it's the nature of the game.

on to the next subject.

Would not be suprised to see major changes to the WR position in the off season. Hurd and or Crayton could be upgraded. RW I am afraid they are stuck with.

I wouldn't get rid of him... Crayton plays the slot extremely well.

yes. He's a great route runner, I'd keep him if only he plays the slot.

Hurd's days are numbered. Good hands but not very fast...I think next season we'll look like this:

1. Williams
2. Austin
3. Crayton
4. Ogletree
5. Draft Pick

Crayton is at his best at the slot position. Why would his days be numbered? He is playing the position he plays best.

yes but lets say we draft Shipley ? to play slot

then hes on the trade block IMO

Exactly.. slot is his natural position..

With his possible demotion to 3rd WR and the apparent loss of his return duties, is Crayton on his way out?

I have to assume (hope) that we will be taking at least one or two receivers in this year draft, and probably one before the 3rd round for a change, so we may be getting some fresh talent in here soon.

Thoughts?

Can't see how his days would be numbered with the receivers we have behind him. Hurd only shows up in preseason and Ogletree has yet to make a catch in a regular season game. Even RW hasn't been any better than Crayton. If anyones days are numbered I would think it would be Hurd.

If the Cowboys did not draft a WR the last 2 years what makes anyone think they are capable of scouting, drafting and developing a WR? Did you forget 2 years ago Jerry said the 08 draft didnt have a WR who could start in Dallas... thats poor scouting! Miles, Hurd and even Stanback have been projects for years... hence the "Galloway 2" trade.

I'm sure we would love to have Donnie Avery, Eddie Royal, Desean Jackson or Mario Manningham on our roster today.

He's going to be diminished to a smaller role player. Role players can be had cheaply, are easily aquired and can be interchangable. I would rather have a role player who better compliments the players we have. I would have loved to aquire Roscoe Parrish for a cheap late day draft pick and have him replace Crayton in the slot next year. First of all, he would bring some much needed speed and big play ability to the offense. I personally have no hope of Felix ever staying healthy. I don't think players that are hurt on literally every 10 touches time and time again suddenly turn to workhorses out of the blue. Second of all, while he's not a great all around WR, I think his strengths match Romo's strengths well in that Romo is very good at hitting his WRs in stride on crossing routes and letting them run with the football (Roscoe Parrish easily scores a TD on that crossing route Romo threw to Sam Hurd for 51 yards in the final drive of the Denver game, making the four failed plays at the goalline moot) . Third of all, he actually is one of the game's most dangerous return man. Lastly, I would like to get Crayton's mouth out of Dallas.

he is a very good asset. I'd hate to lose him.

Folks here are just fickle. After game 1 people were in love with him.

Yep...and i feel like he is one of the people that hate losing on this team.

Ya'll crazy Crayton is what he is.. A loud mouthed, slow, possesion, lower round ex QB.. Who had surpassed expectations... He doesn't make alot of money and Romo trusts him.. Move him to the slot .

If Austin gets signed long-term, that will be a lot of money to be paying a #3 slot receiver.

Crayton does work well in the slot, but unlike a lot of great slot receivers, Crayton does not have the great mobility others do.

It's a trait that I've felt that this WR corps has lacked for a while.

I certainly don't think he goes anywhere this season, but I can see him moving on next season (depending on economics of course).

Guys:

Does Crayton bug you like he does me in that he seem to have no urgency about his play. Example: the fumble on the completed pass seemed to occur because he was just holding the ball too loosely and let the guy knock it out. Also, he always runs out of bounds instead of taking it up and gaining a few more yards. I could understand if he was a running back that carried the ball a lot, but he is a good sized wide receiver that doesn't touch the ball a lot.

When you think about the guys the Cowboys got rid of (TO, Tank, Pacman, RW,), all of these guys seemed to have attitude problems of one kind or another. Maybe Crayton should be gone also. Note: they probably needed him because we are short of WR and he doesn't command the locker room like TO.

Maybe the demotion will improve his attitude.

Thoughts?

I was a big Crayton fan during his first couple of seasons even though he didn't get much if any playing time. At that time, I felt we had our future number 2 receiver ready to start in a couple of years.

I don't think it is a case of him being lazy but rather losing concentration at times. He has dropped easy passes and caught very tough to catch passes. It seems when the pressure is lower, he does not concentrate as diligently as he should.

I also think many of the fans and coaches had too high of expectations from him. It was easy to have those expectations when teams were rolling defenses toward TO's side and Crayton having more opportunities to make plays.

The reality is that Crayton has good hands but is best suited as the number 3 (slot) receiver. He makes his cuts very tightly and quickly but when he lines up outside, he has a hard time creating separation.

Crayton is at his best when he has routes that take him left and right rather than being limited to straight ahead or one sided routes that most outside receivers are limited to.

There are some WR starved teams out there and the trade deadline is looming large. :D

Spencer/Crayton/Spears (or pick) to Carolina for Peppers and a 7th.

I don't see us getting rid of Crayton anytime soon. He'll still be here next year, even if we draft someone, until they learn the offense and are ready to produce for us, at the very least.

I wasn't suggesting he was going to be cut. I'm just not sure he makes it to the end of his current contract at this point. Not that our WR corp is currently bursting with talent, but I don't see how we can look at the success the Eagles and Giants are having with their drafted receivers and not make a move at this point.
