Are fans ready to accept the Micah trade devasted our defense?

I wonder if most fans think an extra month or six weeks of "contention" before missing the playoffs is really that huge a difference. I kind of doubt it.

IDK . I’d have to believe the longer we have meaningful games extending hopes throughout the season to possibly make the playoffs would be welcomed by most fans .

Looking back I could see how some fans might not see much difference but while you’re in the midst of still in contention makes a much more interesting season IMO.

if we somehow slip into the playoffs we will get owned as USUAL with this horror of a D

Yea, trading Micah wasn’t in the plans or intention. But all of these fans are supporting it. Doesn’t make sense.

This statement makes no sense. Jerry's plans and intentions are often at odds with what's best for the team, so supporting something that he didn't plan makes all the sense in the world.

If someone like Micah — easily our best player — can be treated and discarded like yesterday’s news, imagine what that says to guys like Wilson or Fowler. Then we go and hand out extensions to players who didn’t even need them, like Ferguson and Bland, and the rest of the team realizes this is just a business.

Why risk injury when the front office not only fails to appreciate your best player, but goes out of its way to bad-mouth him and toss him aside? And all this happens a week before the season starts — against the defending Super Bowl champs, no less. Of course they’re deflated. And they’ll stay that way all season long, especially once the losses start piling up.

I understand if we were actually in an official rebuild mode and Micah wasn’t in our plans as we planned on trading him to highest bidder during Free Agency that could have actually been a strategic plan. But that’s not what happened. We had every intention on resigning. We just couldn’t get a deal done . But I’m not here to argue out as that’s been exhausted over last couple months.

This thread is about what the impacts of losing Micah has meant to this defense . The fact we lost him a week before the season had to be devasting to a DC and schemes with other losses on defense in FA and injuries.

Where was our pass rush going to come from. We also lost Lawrence as a Cap Casualty. Our top two edge rushers gone .

And with our 2 CB’s not a 100% recovering from injuries we were leaving our secondary very vulnerable without a pass rush.

WTH were we thinking. We had to know it could be a disaster .

I'm ok with Clark and the draft picks and having the money to sign Pickens and others. A new coach on defense might turn them around next year.

Getting 4 or 5 players for Parsons justified the trade.

Does losing a greater potential of making the playoffs for a couple years at least until we can bring in and develop these new picks (assuming they aren’t bust) justify?

We’ll see but in the meantime Dak is balling out and wasting prime performances. It would have been much easier and faster to reload our defense around Micah IMO.

And it’s totally derailed this season. And perhaps more than this year pending how well we use the capital in next couple of years .

Meanwhile our dynamic offense is blowing in the wind having to put up 30-40 points to stay in the game . What a waste.

You are just going to be negative no matter what. Dak playing well isn't wasting anything. He can continue to play for years with the outstanding receivers they have. They very well can add an outstanding defensive player in the draft. They could add 3 outstanding players in the draft and they are getting Overshown and Revel back. Nothing is guaranteed, but some positive improvements could very well be coming.

You know a good way to stop the run? Get a lead and force them to pass. With no pass rush we can't stop the passing game either. When Micah was here and the defense was good we got after the QB and forced mistakes and took the ball away. We would score, rinse and repeat. We also had Tank. Despite his critics he was a very good player, especially against the run and getting pressure.

You call it negative. I call it critical thinking.

Bottomline is we could have been more competitive this year and still built on in Draft and FA next year with our best player on defense.

And each year we aren’t providing a more competitive defense capable of contending for playoffs is in effect wasting Daks career, or what’s left of it anyway.

Unfortunately this era our owner has lowered the bar here in Cowboys Nation.

Championships are no longer the highest priority. In his own words “ hanging around the rim “ and “ remaining relevant” is the message from our dysfunctional ownership.

Regular season success and playoff appearances is basically all we are about now providing Jethro a product to hype and sell while he parades around like a football celebrity which is his ultimate passion.

Absoultely not. Not sure if I can take yet another embarrasing ax whupping in the playoffs. Rather just miss it and watch real playoff football.

I don’t really care what it makes you. But I’d always argue getting on base is better than striking out regardless if you can score or not.

I think most fans would be for meaningful games in December and part of January. Getting to the dance is always better than not .
