Are fans ready to accept the Micah trade devasted our defense?

Some fans get too wrapped up in winning and losing a trade, as if it were a zero sum game.

The Packers are in win now mode and the Cowboys were needing to rebuild. The trade made sense for both parties.

Maybe this move puts the Packers over the top. But keeping Parsons definitely wouldn’t have gotten Dallas the SB.

If it didn’t work out before when he was cheap, what are the chances it would have worked when he was expensive?
I’d agree if we were actually in rebuild mode. But Micah’s failed negotiation which led to last minute bail out trade some fans are interpreting it as an indicator our owner is in rebuild mode. When in fact he’s still All In with Dak can still contend and win now.

Not at all. Great deal. Our problems are with LBs and secondary, not pass rush. Yes, it could be better. Yes, Ez is getting better every week (just graded 4 slots back of Crosby and Watt). With the return of a healthy Bland and Overshawn, regardless of how Diggs plays, the D can get significantly better. To trade for a quality DB or LB would improve it even more. It's anything but a disaster.
Only two teams have fewer sacks this season than Dallas. So pass rush is a problem.

I find it funny that the guy was treated like a god here for years, and now suddenly he’s “not that great” to some of the fans. lol

Look, I love having the extra picks and the cap space not signing him created (hello, Pickens), but his absence absolutely, 100%, affected this defense.
Yea. Seems like some fans tend to dump on players once they leave.

Keeping Micah would’ve crippled our team for years. How are you going to pay him with dumb salaries Dak and a few other players have? I’d rather have four draft picks in the first two rounds and see if you hit on one or two of them.
Long term it could work out but Jethro is All In and win now mode with Dak.

no it didn't it actually is helping the defense grow, yes we're going through the growing pains, but it was the best thing to happen for the team

While I am happy with the outcome and improvement show yesterday by the defense. I am not buying that they really improved. I think they were able to scheme against an inferior team with many holes and a sophomore QB (sorry I don't buy the Daniels hype either) and could pin their ears back with nobody there to make them pay. (Daniels missed wide open WR and WR dropped several balls that would have extended drives and assured more scores).
The commanders offense was significantly compromised.

Imagine this lineup from us

WR1: Tolbert
WR2: Fluornoy
WR3: Brooks

Commanders had to play a practice squad dude they just brought up last week.

Snipped this from the Athletic.

Over the last four weeks, as McLaurin and Brown have dealt with injuries, defenses have played man in 29.1 percent of their snaps. The Cowboys used man coverage on 48.4 percent of their snaps, the highest percentage of any team on Sunday and the seventh-highest by any team in a game this season. The result: a 51.6 percent catch rate by the Commanders, their lowest in a game in nearly two years.

No one should believe that this change in plan would have ever been possible if they had McLauren, Samuel and Brown. We see the defense play man coverage with moderate success against a bunch of backups and get excited and believe it’s turning a corner.

I want to believe it too!

I knew late last week when Samuel was ruled out that we would play man, blitz and stack the line.

I’m just as confident we won’t do that against the Broncos. We’ll play more man that we did in week one and two (three plays combined), but it won’t be close to what we saw this week.

We just don’t have the pass rush to allow our DBs to hang with quality receivers for more than a few seconds.

They gave up 20+ points to the Cardinals.

Dallas problem is coaching. It’s not Micah not being here.

Micah’s good.

Give me the Money, Clark, & 4 1sts over the next 2 years.
Why do people continue to include our own draft picks in these Micah trade packages?

I understand if we were actually in an official rebuild mode and Micah wasn’t in our plans as we planned on trading him to highest bidder during Free Agency that could have actually been a strategic plan. But that’s not what happened. We had every intention on resigning. We just couldn’t get a deal done . But I’m not here to argue out as that’s been exhausted over last couple months.

This thread is about what the impacts of losing Micah has meant to this defense . The fact we lost him a week before the season had to be devasting to a DC and schemes with other losses on defense in FA and injuries.

Where was our pass rush going to come from. We also lost Lawrence as a Cap Casualty. Our top two edge rushers gone .

And with our 2 CB’s not a 100% recovering from injuries we were leaving our secondary very vulnerable without a pass rush
WTH were we thinking. We had to know it could be a disaster .
The problem with our defense is Jerry. He hired the overrated, has-been coach Mike Zimmer and that lame coach Eberwuss.

If he had hired Joe Whitt, we wouldn’t be in this situation because Whitt would continue with the predominant man-to-man defense, which is our strength.

I’m not saying it would fix everything, but it’s so much better than the crap Eberflus is putting out.

I agree with you. But we still get torched when we play zone. Our entire team suck at zone. Playing zone won't solve anything. It will just make things worst.

Re-sign Micah you still have 2 firsts and if you have a shot like you do this season, maybe you could add in trade if you can challenge Philly for division

No telling whether Parsons' trade will work out for Green Bay in the end.

However, as a Packer fan, I can say that without Micah the Packers are at best a 3-3 team (rather than 4-1-1).

To those arguing Parsons' 5.5 sacks (in 6 games) have not made a difference, it is worth considering that GB's other starting Edge Rashan Gary has never before had 10 or more sacks in his 6-year NFL career.

So far this season, Gary also has 5.5 sacks (on pace for 15.5) and had a key sack causing a fumble/turnover yesterday. His production is directly related to Micah getting double teamed and freeing him up.

The trade could well turn out to be a good one for the Cowboys ... but Micah has been everything GB wanted through the first 6 games.
No buyers remorse at Packers end!

We are definitely not in rebuild.
With Dak's play etc, we had a shot this year (with Parsons)

Huge mistake made here and some fans have fallen for the thought of the picks.
1) We are not in rebuild
2) We have 2 first round picks in next 2 drafts regardless of trade
3) Front office underestimated our offense

I was over Micah 3/4 days before Jerry traded him.

We have an odd position to be in. We are in a rebuild but the offensepive line is finished and receivers. We have the best offensive coaches in years.Dak is the nice problem to have.

I hate the move. But I am also not an idiot, although there are those here who might feel differently.

But the reality of this trade in the short run looks stupid. But the reality of this trade over the next 16 months will be significantly different.

There is a possibility of adding 4 first round picks - 2 in 2026 and 2 in 2027. Two second round picks - 26 and 27. And one third round pick in 27. That is seven top 100 picks in the next two drafts. (Unless Jerry is a complete moron, which he may be.)

Lose the skirmish, win the war.

No, of course not. I loved Micah and he was a great player for us. But from the reports I have seen he screwed around at the end with making demands that he should have known were not going to fly. And so as painful as it was, the moment he was gone, I moved on too. And no, I did not think it would "devastate" our defense. That makes no sense to me. We were always going to need time to adjust to new coaches. We had great players on defense apart from Micah and we had injuries. So it was going to take some weeks of adjustment no matter what. And sure enough the defense is coming around. Dak has been so good that the entire rest of the team can't help but be positively impacted. Obviously, it was going to take the defense the longest to gel. It is a testament to how well the offense is, that we are only 1 game out of first place in our division after 7 games. I think we have turned the corner with the defense and the defense we just saw, that shut down the second best rushing attack in the NFL and saw Clowney and Bland emerge, will only get better and better. With our league best offense and all world field goal kicker and a defense that is coming around, we will be a very hard to beat championship level team from here.

Micah is a great player but one player an entire defense does not make. I stand corrected if he wins games for the Packers with just him on defense.

It did but id rather not have Parsons than pay $47 million per season to him. Cap Space will be hurting in Green Bay in 2 years.

Yea, all of a sudden with this #1 offense if we even had an average defense we could be a contender in a NFC which looks wide open.
