Are receivers getting open?

It feels like for years that our receivers never seem to be that open. Any of you film breaking down experts see the same or are we missing open guys? I feel like we are always tight fitting into tight windows, but that's just eyeball on tv evaluation. Thanks.

Not with any regularity. It's been a problem with this offense for years.

IMO, there isn't enough going on down the field. It's like we're playing red zone offense the entire time. We need somebody to emerge as a deep threat.

you think wimpy arm can get the ball down the field.

next qb needs to be 6'4-6'5, 10% body fat prototype.

Yes I think they are.....the question is are we running the right plays to open up the field enough for Romo. And the second question would be, is Romo surveying the field well enough to find the open guy.

Someone with the All 22 film may be able to give some information about that

I like Romo and I think he is more than good enough to win with. Having said that, he does sometimes lock into Witten too much.

I saw few times on Sunday where Beasley and Williams was open for the 1st down but Romo went to Witten who was well covered. Witten didn't catch the ball because the defender had position to knock the ball away.

I wasn't a big Beasley fan but that dude gets open quick and catches everything thrown at him. Yeh, he's a one trick pony but I think this offense needs that trick to get the chains moving.

But knowing JG, he'll be deactivated rest of the season in favor of another TE being activated.

Yes, but not consistently. And it's really not their fault.

They're largely just running down the field and turning around, trying to beat whoever is covering them.

But when the coaches actually call something intelligent (the 2nd Bryant TD) it works like a charm. That play, they looked like they would run which vacated space in the secondary when Weddle crept up to stop Murray. Weddle is in too deep, loses track of Dez who crosses over the field and Dez is open for a second in the middle... Romo hits him, TD.

Other than that it's... obvious pass play (shot gun/no backs/trips, etc), receivers run forward to undetermined length, turn around (Romo has already been sacked). Something to that effect.

Routes rarely overlap or cross to lose defenders. There are no 'clear out' routes. No moving before the snap to create mismatches or to identify whether it's zone or man. And they never threaten deep. It is really the stupidest offense in the league, and somehow our guys are making it work from time to time.

Bryant is a big, physical receiver who can go up and get the ball. He doesn't need to be wide open for us to throw it his way and for him to make catches. The real problem is what TO alluded to. Is Witten really 'open' when Romo constantly throws to him? Nope, he's covered by two or three guys. Should we be looking for a rookie in the redzone or should we be looking for the guy who scored our previous two touchdowns?

I wonder if the offense is just based upon resds so they constantly get the same reads and run the dame routes

Until the last pass of the 1st half. I might finish later, there are definitely better things I could be doing:

Had Dez 1 on 1 Deep.

Sigh..

(and thanks for posting, would love to see more of these if you have time)

A few things here:

I see a lot of shallow routes
WR always looking back for the ball
WR never running full speed into the route
Romo just gets rid of the ball he doesn't wait for the play to develop.
Not impressed with Beasley if you look at some of those routes the guy doesn't get open and from what all you guys say that's his forte. He is limited very limited. This is a problem when you have to rely on a WR his size.
I also notice almost all of the WR stumbling all the time nothing looks smooth at all.

What does it all mean? Who knows I'm out of answers here feels like we are beating a dead horse. We will not win like this that's all I know.

I don't see any crossing routes. Everything is straight forward or an out. No wonder people can't get open.

It's a terribly designed offense. There was a clear difference between 2007 and 2008. In 2007 there was a lot of motion, and plenty of routes that went across the middle. Then Sparano left and Garrett has wasted the immense talent he's had at his disposal. Possibly the worst offensive mind in the league.

Maybe our receivers just need to go up against our basic zone. That outta help them.
