Are we fooling ourselves hitching our wagon to Tony Romo?

Who here thinks that we could possibly be kidding ourselves by hitching our wagon to one undrafted T Romo as our franchise QB for years to come? Don't get me wrong fellas, I was pleasantly surprised in what I saw in TR last season (although he seemed to fade a bit down the stretch). Have we seen the high tide of TR's career already? Just wondering if this is a chancy proposition and if we would be better served moving up in the draft and picking more of a sure thing. These Cinderalla stories don't happen too often. Will TR really be the exception to the rule? I guess it boils down to: is he really something special or just fool's gold.
Let's get some objective, thoughtful opinions going on this very important topic, before we sign this guy to a huge long term extension.
Looking forward to hearing from all.

I dunno maybe if you keep making the same thread over and over people will eventually agree with you.

I'm cautiously optimistic. Flash-in-the-pans have happened before, though. Hopefully, this won't be the case with Romo.

How many of us are on the wagon? I know he's a good athlete, but at 6-2, 225...I doubt he could pull more than three of us.

I am, by far, the biggest QB elitest on this forum. I am all about the pedigree when it comes to QBs. It is the position that I harp on the most. It is the position I coached. I believe you need a good QB to go anywhere.

We are fine with Romo.

He doesn't have a huge arm, but he is accurate, makes good decisions, follows proper progressions on his reads, is smart, athletic, and charismatic so that his team follows him.

Save your hands from wringing and don't pull out your hair.

Oh, and our thoughts on the topic will have nothing to do with whether or not he gets a lucrative, long term contract. I can promise you that. This entire forum could hate him and it wouldn't stop the Cowboys from anything.

I think Romo is the real deal and hope Jerry gets him signed to a long term deal.

There is no such thing as a "sure thing" with QB's. I would feel better about Romo if Tuna had let him start the season before last. He should have taken the reigns from Bledsoe much earlier. If he had 1 1/2 to 2 seasons under his belt we would probably know if he is "flash in the pan" or a "sure thing". Bledsoe was a waste of time, in that he was not our QB of the future and he was taking snaps away from someone who may be.

What is your alternative? Should we trade for David Carr? IMHO, he blows. Maybe we should trade for Jake Plummer. No thanks. How about roll Jeff Garcia up in here? Again, no thanks from me. I will take my chances with Romo. Maybe we should do everything in our power to draft a top QB? Tony Romo has shown me more than Brady Quinn or Jamarcus Russell and those guys are about to get huge deals in the next few months. No thanks.

I think we've got "Cinderella" in Dallas right now. Remember, it was Romo's first year as a starter, truncated at that. I think he's going to come back big, but we'll see.

I've read reports that he has a strong arm. SI once called him "the strong armed and confident Tony Romo", the year he went undrafted. Can he make all the throws necessary?

as long as Quincy or Hutch or Vinny are not here, I think we have a chance...and Romo did show he has promise and would come a lot cheaper than drafting a QB or finding one out there right now in FA who could really make a difference.. I think he is a risk worth taking

Was there a particular throw or throws he failed to make last season? If so, I missed it.

I would be lying if I didn't say I had some doubts. During our run in the middle of the season, particularly after the Thanksgiving day game, it seemed too good to be true. But despite the criticism, I don't really think that he had any truly bad games the rest of the way. I wish that he had played better in the home game against Philadelphia but that loss could hardly be pinned on him.

With Romo, I see all the intangibles. The players seem to like him and follow him. He is smart, works and studies hard, competitive and confident. And off the field, how he carries himself makes me proud to have him be one of the faces of the organization.

So I guess that just leaves talent. There are reasons that quarterbacks don't get selected in the NFL draft. I keep wondering whether he has the physical tools to play in this league. I believe that he does. But I'd be lying if I said I was sure.

His confidence is top notch. Has a great sense of humor and his teammates gravitate towards him.

When I think strong arm, I think Favre, Elway, Marino, etc. He's got a decent arm that benefits from his accuracy. All QBs can make long, deep throws. Some are just in another league with it though. He's not in that parade, but he has more than enough to get most jobs done.

The kid is okay.

Good enough for me. What are your thoughts on who we should have to back him up? Who would you propose? Is Tommy Maddox a joke or a real possibility?
