Are we fooling ourselves hitching our wagon to Tony Romo?

He needs to work on the fumbles, that's for sure.
yes and the out of nowhere interceptions, mostly cause he was forcing it.but it was his first year,he will overcome these issues.

If I could hand pick who to bring in, Carr would be my choice.

I do like the idea of winning a job against a true competitor.

You've shared some great thoughts and insight on this post my friend. I agree with much you have said. I too like the idea of Carr, he is far more talented he then he is given credit for and has had to endure some pathetic times in Houston.

Thing is even Vets from time to time will force passes. Romo will never be perfect but no QB who has ever played the game has been perfect. Like any QB Romo needs the guys around him to step up and make their plays and provide protection. I think if they do that the sky is the limit for him and this team.

It would be interesting to see if one David Carr could actually outshine TR for the starting position should Wade/Jerry be wise enough to sign him.
Let the best man win the position and play no favorites.
Thoughts?

Explain to me why the Texans and noted QB guru (supposedly) Gary Kubiak are shopping David Carr for a pick and considering bringing in Jake Plummer? This was after they gave him a three year extension last year. I personally don't think Carr has "it," and apparently Gary Kubiak and Rick Smith don't think so either. David Carr is "fools gold."

I agree on a second day pick spent on a QB. Your thoughts on Matt Baker?
I'd love to see us take a chance on the kid from Boise State, but I think John Beck of BYU is a perfect backup behind Romo.

I doubt Baker is ever more than a backup, maybe only 3rd string. I don't say that as an insult like some will. I think that's one hell of an accomplishment.

Thoughts ? My thoughts are that I already posted this in this thread.

The Texans have breeded a culture of losing and unfortunately for Carr he has had to endure some lousy teams. Kubiak is trying to take the team in a new direction and is willing to shop Carr to get where he wants to be. It would be a move that would be good for everyone...Carr, Kubiak, and most importantly the Cowboys. Years ago, I remember a QB who everyone said was a draft day bust who went on to win a couple of SB's when he was traded to another team. His name was Jim Plunkett. Don't be so quick to dismiss Carr just yet.

do u agree that he is raw?he is great and bad in the same token.i think he will only get better and definitely is our guy.but i personally have about 75% complete faith in him now.we shall see.
Personally, I like raw. To me that says he plays with an attitude or edge. He's not a polished gem. Maybe he's a diamond in the rough. All I know is he jump started a team on a downward spiral before our defense completely fell apart.

The kid's fine.

IMO, Carr has all the physical tools, but he does not have the heart or the mind to be a great NFL QB. The whispers in the Houston media center on the fact that he is more focused on being a family man than being an elite or solid NFL QB. He does not spend hours at the facilities pouring over tape, for example...I've heard him confirm that himself. I am not saying that is a bad thing, but it is a big thing. I have watched him and listened to him for five years, if you want him, you can have him. You will be disappointed.

I would be lying if I didn't say I had some doubts. During our run in the middle of the season, particularly after the Thanksgiving day game, it seemed too good to be true. But despite the criticism, I don't really think that he had any truly bad games the rest of the way. I wish that he had played better in the home game against Philadelphia but that loss could hardly be pinned on him.

With Romo, I see all the intangibles. The players seem to like him and follow him. He is smart, works and studies hard, competitive and confident. And off the field, how he carries himself makes me proud to have him be one of the faces of the organization.

So I guess that just leaves talent. There are reasons that quarterbacks don't get selected in the NFL draft. I keep wondering whether he has the physical tools to play in this league. I believe that he does. But I'd be lying if I said I was sure.

Well said. I think most all of us feel the same way.

I do want him and hope we pick him up. He needs a change and we need a veteran backup who can step in.
As far as pouring over tape, I recall we had a truly lousy QB that we were told "studied film" all the time. Those that defended him touted how he always "studied film". His name was Quincy Carter and he was simply horrific. Probably our worst starting QB ever.
With the right team, right coaches Carr would be motivated to excel. Oh, and he gets no demerits from me for being a family man.

Problem was that QC was watching the wrong film, or he coulda been a HOF'er...

Okay, so Mo is covering the deep 1/3 of the field. Larry is man to man on the TE and Curly is blitzing up the middle. Doink !

LOL. Trust me, Q never was NFL material, much less HOF material. You are probably right about the film he was "studying". My guess he was getting stoned and giggling like 12 year girl while supposedly "studying" film. LOL.

Seriously, David Carr would be the best way for us to go for reasons I have stated above. Let's hope JJ makes it happen.

Did you go to Fresno State?

If you want to diminish the importance of putting in many hours looking at tape, etc. because of Quincy's lack of success, you are welcome to do so, but that is foolish, IMO. I'd say it's pretty important. Talk to Peyton Manning and other elite QBs about that.

Glad you know what motivates Carr...maybe you should talk to him so that he knows.

Where did I dismiss film watching? I just was making the point that it did the horrific Q no good. He was still lousy after hours of studying film.
Re-read my comments. Carr was pounded relentlessly with the Texans and had virtually no supporting cast. He is no fool, with protection and talent around him I have no doubt he would be motivated to excel which means he would do his part in studying film.
Oh, and just how reliable are your sources who said Carr is not motivated? Sounds like nothing more than a local sportswriter who is trying to get some traction on a story to me.
You don't like Carr...so be it. I see great potential in him.

Funny stuff, the sad thing was that I was a QC backer over Hutch in the days. Ah, the choices between 2 evils.
