Are we too hard on Taco?

This year we will truly find out. No Gregory means more playing time for Taco... Let's see what he's truly made of.

I think we are. Guy showed promise last camp. He was hurt and bad attitude put him in the dog house. Talent is there. I think he will be a factor. He has to be with Gregory suspended and the Lawrence debacle.

Right now, it's Quinn, Hyder, and Crawford as the pass rush from DE, with Taco and Armstrong looking to break into that rotation.

Taco needs to make that move this year, or bust talk will be justified. And it's going to be hard to make that move, with competent vets above him in the rotation.

If Lawrence or Gregory come back, they'll be paired with Quinn on pass downs, making it even harder for Taco to get many pass snaps. And Armstrong may be the better pure pass rusher.

The lack of pass snaps will be a test of his maturity. He didn't like it last year. Can't entirely blame him. But if he gets pissy about it, he'll only hurt himself. Again.

His best bet may be to put on some weight and try to be an interior pass rusher. We need more interior pass rush. And Marinelli likes the long, bigger DEs for interior pass rush. Pull a David Irving.

Although looking around the web at David Irving, I found maybe the secret to his success. 37 3/4 arms. 87 3/4 wing span. He says in an interview that he was told it was the largest in the NFL.
I don't remember ever seeing arms that long. Superfreak.

Clowney had the largest wingspan in his dl class. 83 inch.

Iriving had all world physical ability. Mental ability was that of a 3 year old.

I ask because I am curious. What has he shown to think he's coming along here? He was actually deactivated for games last year which is never a good sign of where the team thinks you are at.

I consider what happened to him last year in the "maturing and developing" category...
He might be a knucklehead and not mature and he might regress, but I've been following him since high school (as a Michigan fan) and I don't think he's a knucklehead.

He's not. He's a guy who puts in great effort, but is slow to learn. Once he gets it, he will most likely be at minimum a solid player.

This guy thinks so highly of himself despite the results. And I don't count sack numbers against a player. I want consistency or to see the opposing team focus on you over others since you're the best we have.
