Are we trying to pull off some sort of Moneyball?

agreed and yet their offense was best when they had Gronk (an absolute monster) at TE and a generational Randy Moss at receiver. With their greatest of all time QB you can get away with having average receivers
He didn't have average WRs. Fan myth. He had Welker, then Edlemann, best slot WR of all time, best TE of all time, and they always had a competent pass catching RB. Why? Because the salary slots for these positions if way below the salaries for WRs. Which leaves money for D which wins championships.

They lost the super bowl when they had Moss at WR, and Brady got sacked 5 times in that super bowl. Downfield passing attacks get QBs beat up.

They very well may suck. But to me I see more potential in a ex first rounder that’s 24 who may have been a bad scheme fit as opposed to a 30 year old who’s best years are behind them and just wants one last pay day. Let’s remember there’s no store where you can go to to get great players. This is free agency. Free agency isn’t a solution to your problems it’s just a band aid to cover your wound for the time being.

Cowboys issues are not something you can fix in free agency. Doesn’t mean you don’t try but in order to do wear needs to be don’t it starts with new leadership.
most often, some of these things work out. some don't.
I just don't trust jerry's decisions. he has to prove himself right.

I am not going to get hopes up....

Good take.

It does seem like WillM watched that movie. 8)
I think this as Will McClay all over it. I think he's taking the reins on all forms of team building, not just the draft... and he's using his draft "prowess" to make FA acquisitions.

That's the "Moneyball" I'm referring to... a different scheme/idea to find value in players.

Don't be fooled by all the activity by the Cowboys crap FO. They are putting together a crap team, coached by crap, managed by crap and owned by crap. I promise you they will finish last in their division. More of the same in 2026 if Coach BS stays around.
You're probably not wrong!

It isn’t as complex as money ball
‘Hey let’s get youngish former first rounders who are cheap because they haven’t produced to expectations’
I mean at least they came up with something but it’s hardly rooted in complex data science
I'm not saying it is, I'm just saying it might appear that they are trying to find talent in a different way.

I think it might just be as simple as using draft profiles/grades to find/sign cheap players.

Its equivalent to Jerry drafting injured/at risk players in the 2nd because they would have been firsts without those issues.
Jerry is a simpleton buffoon always trying to get lucky with a reclamation project.
THANK YOU!!! The pattern is unmistakable: "See what I do is I draft a player with a bum knee...then I pay my medical staff really well to keep my stable of ...players...healthy. So I pay my medical staff well so they can salvage reupholstered/injured talent. So I actually get 2 1st round picks and I save money. Whose better than ME?"

We don't play "moneyball". We play "moneybags". We hand out bags of money to Jerry's favorite players.

You're right, I did a poor job of explaining what I meant. Outside of slot receivers/great route runners who were not average, some of their outside receivers were average.

Definitely some truth to the rest of what you said.

True......and failing in the playoffs seems to be the force multiplier.

Jerry's gonna need to see Mazi get ragdolled in at least 2 more playoff games before giving him the bag

I'm starting to wonder if we are trying to pull off some sort of "Moneyball" style form of team building were we are looking at certain metrics that the general public doesn't generally perceive as valuable to sign lower dollar FA and acquire players via trade.

I'm not saying that it is a positive or a good thing, but it certainly seems like they are targeting certain players who have an athletic profile over an NFL pedigree.

Our offseason seems to have a theme... from the coaching search/hire to the FA period, to the players we are adding...

Billy Beene NEVER won any championships with “Money Ball”. Ever!!!
