I'm not defending Jerry - I dislike him intensely as the Owner/GM of the Cowboys. I just don't believe that's a reason to claim whatever we want about him. Say what you want, but Jerry does spend money.

As for Schottenheimer, of course he isn't going to be one of the highest paid coaches. No first time head coach ever is. But that doesn't mean money was the overriding reason for the choice.

And Eberflus? A known coach who earned a head coaching job because he was respected as a coordinator and leader. Do we really think he is going to be paid at the bottom of the barrel for DC's?

we were 27th in cap spending, which puts us closer to the cap floor than cap ceiling
we were 28th in dead cap, essentially because we keep most players to the end of their contract so that we don't have to pay twice for the same position
prior to CD and Dak we were 28th in cash spending. essentially not signing FAs and handing big contracts. after Dak and CD we were 16th.

And look at assistant coaches ... why would Eberflus be cheap? And what about Dan Quinn, who the Cowboys reportedly paid at an elite level for his role to help keep him from leaving for another team? Quinn actually turned down the chance to interview for some head coaching positions a couple of years ago to stay with the Cowboys. Jerry did the same with Garrett too.

The Zeke comment is nonsensical. if they thought they would make money they obviously would have produced jerseys to sell with his new number, but why would they do that for a seldom used backup? Zeke wasn't going to be a focus of the team or a guy the team marketed.

The Eagles have one of the best defenses in the NFL I was looking at what’s working . Fangio obviously can’t make a lateral move per NFL so who’s on that staff .

His defenses were top 10 in scoring defense in 3 of the 4 years he was DC in Indy.

2018- 10th in points against
2019- 18th
2020- 10th
2021- 9th

Defenses are also stout against the run:

2018- 8th in rush yards against.
2019- 7th
2020- 2nd
2021- 10th

No not at all . Based on 14-32 as HC in Chicago with not a second of challenging the Kings of the North. Division bottom feeders .

His clock management with the Bears last year was poor and some believe led to his firing. But what about his Defense. In 2022 it was really bad, in terms of points given up. In 2023 bad to begin with but he did rally towards the end of the season which probably gave him a 3rd year. Then in 2024 after a solid start the wheels come off again.

I want someone who can build a top 5 DEF. Not seeing anything here to make me think this is possible.

I believe they ranked right around the middle of the NFL last season on D . Caleb Williams had some weapons the entirety of the Chicago situation had me surprised by this hire but when you look at Eberflus & Schott plus keeping Lunda Wells at TE coach Jerry likes comfortable slippers etc I get it .

Sometimes you got to blow up the house rebuild the staff take chances .

But does Eberflus bring enough to the table to where I think it compensates for the FO's absolute bungling of the HC hiring process? No.

But to be fair, I'm not sure anybody would.
